Commercial Description:
A Russian Imperial Stout with a hearty malt body and bold hop flavor.
Named after the infamous "Blackout of 2003" that left the northeastern United States in complete darkness, but resulted in old-fashioned neighborhood porch parties and fun.

pours pitch black with small tan head. aroma is coffee, toffee and lots of chocolate. drinks with tons of semisweet chocolate and mild coffee. has a nice rich toffee sweetness bringing up the back end. finishes light on the tongue but leaves great chocolate flavor.

Bottle in the hotel on the way to the airport to avoid having to pack it. Tasted along with Founders Breakfast Stout. Pours black with a nice tan head that fades to lasting large bubbles. Smells like smoky roasted malts and chocolate. Taste adds vanilla and molasses. Medium- to full-bodied and slightly astringent.

Very dark brown pour that lets just a hint of light through with a big, loose tan head. Aroma of cocoa powder, dark fruit, booze and day old cofee. More cocoa in the flavor along with some hints of toffee, raisins, rum, butterscotch, alcohol and stale coffee. The body is oily and too thin for an imperial. It’s overcabonated as well. It’s not offensive or bad but it just falls short on every point I want in a good impy.

Bottle shared by TheCaptain, thanks Mark. Pitch black pour topped by a thin head. The smell and flavor were both filled with rum soaked dark chocolate, plum, licorice, and raisin. Big presence in the mouth, nice and smooth as well. Very nice though maybe a tad too simple. I would gladly drink it again anytime though.

Bomber provided by Joey at AleSmiths tasting bar. Black color has a medium tan head. Aroma of rich dark chocolate and coffee. Flavor starts with coffee followed by dark chocolate and a bakers chocolate bitter finish. Full body is creamy with soft carbonation.

On tap at the Sugar Maple in Milwaukee. Perfect black pour with a couple of fingers worth of tan head. Frothy even. Molasses, coffee, brown sugar, and baker’s chocolate flavor with a strong bitter finish. Creamy mouthfeel. Damn tasty.

Opaque brown-black pour, moderate pale beige head, OK retention, only temporary lace. Aroma heavily roasted, a lot of licorice and dark chocolate. Aromas travel well, are long lasting, almost palpable in their bitterness. Flavor emphasizes the tree-fruit angle of roast malt, cherry pits, licorice, horehound candy. The bittersweet roast malts segue nicely with a pronounced bitter-orange hop presence. Dark chocolate backbone beneath it all. Full bodied, smooth and creamy on the palate.

Wow. Got the brew from the GLBC Brewpub in Cleveland, great place! Pours a smooth dark brown that leaves a thin yet sustainable head. The Blackout has a wonderful and creamy taste for being an Imperial. As the beer first touches the tongue the signature roasted malts and hops flash across the palate but then the flavor turns to a sweet almost condensed milk type of taste with a slight bitterness. Absolutely delicious, and even better on draught! One of my favorites!
