Head of larger bubbles dissipates into a small ring of tiny bubbles left behind in a few small patches of lace w/ each sip. Nose is a fruity bouquet of hops w/ some pear bites coming out once tasted. Maybe a touch too bitter w/ resiny hops in the finish but w/ real fine feisty carbonation. Not bad at all but I can’t think of any reason I’d chose this over Burning River. Commodore Perry rules all though. Fuck the British Empire and the impressment of our sailors. gws57 (1137), Saint Charles, Illinois, USA

Clear, dark yellow pour with a thick, rapidly dissipating foamy head, apple and pine nutty nose, piney hops, very bitter, with a strong finish. Juelze (901), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Nov 19, 2007 Pours a light copper color. Aroma and taste of grassy hops, light citrus, and subtle pine. Alcohol is way to sharp for just and IPA. Just a mess of an IPa DrHomolka (728), Columbus, Ohio, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Nov 16, 2007 12oz bottle. Pours completely clear, light golden color with a small soapy white head. Aroma is subdued hops with a burnt malt background underneath. Similar to the burning river. Taste is fruity, very lightly bitter, toasty malts and a tiny bit of breadiness. Certainly a lackluster IPA and not one of the breweries’ better beers. I’ve had this fresh on tap and under those circumstances it’s pretty good but when buying a six pack I can think of plenty other beers I’d rather get in the style. Great Lakes is one of my favorite breweries and I think they are great at dark beers and lagers, but they simply don’t know how to make a great hoppy beer. pintsize (1042), Austin, Texas, USA

Strong bitterness that coats the tongue. Highly metallic. For such a weak appearance and smell - it sure kicks you in the face with the heaviness in the taste and the bitterness on the palate. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 13, 2007 Updated: Nov 14, 2007The aroma was deeply malty with citrus and a piney and grassy hop bittering. While the aroma was resinous, piney and grassy, the beer was clear medium gold with a white wispy head which lasted well to lace the glass. The flavor was very nice with a deep malt flavor of caramel coupled with citrus, light pine, and resious hops balanced by a chewy strong malt presence. The body was medium-full with a malty finish that ends dry with lasting piney, grassy and resinous finish. A really nice malty , piney, citrusy and grassy pale ale.

| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Nov 11, 2007 Large off-white head of fine bubbles from a vigorous pour. Light carbonation. Crystal clear apple juice in color. Light hops aroma (citrus) with a bit of caramel malts, some vegetal notes and a bit of spice. Flavor is somewhat dry and pretty bitter. More citrus and some floral notes. Lingering bitterness and some pasty malts. An ok IPA. Probably would not recommend. swoopjones (1900), Buffalo, New York, USA
