Apr 18, 2006 Draught at Fitz’s Pub, Elmhurst, IL. Strong alcohol nose. Smells like an amber. Nothing out of the ordinary. Slightly hazy amber color with a small off-white head and some lace. Initial mouthfeel is a little off. Tastes like Winters Bourbon Cask Ale (AB), but not as sweet. I expected more from Great Lakes, although I submit the possibility that draught craft brews don’t always move that well, and the beer I had may have been sitting in the lines.

Apr 1, 2006 Bottle. Pours light orange with a diminishing head. Nutty and malty aroma. Caramel, citrusy, and even some cookie like flavor. Clean and very mild bitter finish. A very solid example of the style

Mar 30, 2006 Bottled. Poured a clear, lighter shade of orange with a semi-well-retained cap of creamy off-white head. Nose was quite pleasant, with toasty caramel, leafy/floral hoppage, nuttiness, and light fruits (maybe some pear). Sticky caramel, apples, pears, and a woodsy feel to the flavor... just a hint of citrus sourness... caramel and alcohol became a tad biting on the back of the palate as this warmed. Overall very drinkable and solid brew.

Mar 24, 2006 Updated: Aug 26, 2007Until now I have never been impressed by an Irish Red. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a bright reddish caramel color with a small yellow-white head that fades quickly. The aroma is sour tangy malts. The flavor is sour tangy malts with a light apple and pear element and a light zesty malt undertone. The beer is smooth and eminently drinkable. Definitely a better beer than the sum of it’s parts.

Mar 18, 2006 Really nice red-orange color, smallish head sticks to the sides with a bit if lace. Aromas are fruity, sweet and floral, with peach and tangerine, malt sugar, alcohol and yeast. Flavor is nice, medium sweet roast malt, maple syrup, espresso, caramel, toffee and summer fruits, balanced by a solid wallop of hops and hop bitterness. Solid mouthfeel. Good full-bodied ale.

Mar 17, 2006 Bottle, best by May 1, 2006. Sounds pretty fresh to me! Looks like a really clear amber ale to me. Not much aroma. Nice lacing, but not much head even when I pour the beer down the middle (like the Bud Light commercial tells me to!). Surprisingly medium- to full body. I tend to go for beers on the malty side, so this is very appealing to me. I can hardly taste/smell any hops! This is just the kind of beer I would reach for a second time!
