Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald Porter is a dark brown ale with a red-orange hue and a beige head that has some oily bubbles on it. It fades to a leathery film and leaves nice lacing on the glass. It has a roasty chocolate armoa that’s sweetened with malt. It is full bodied with a light finish. It leaves the mouth a bit chalky. It has a roasty flavor with good balance. The hops seems almost minty. There is a note of coffee and the whole flavor is quite dry, unlike the aroma. Nice!

Thanks to Crizay for this. Pours dark brown, red highlights, with a light tan head that lasts a while. Aroma is...off? I get a bit of coffee, dark rye, cocoa, but there’s something really off. It might be oxidation, diacetyl, or a lethal combination of both, but it’s the dominant feature. Taste is less affected, and there’s nice dark chocolate, coffee, rye, roasted almonds and a pleasing astringency, but there’s too much weird buttery sherry poking through. Finishes great with a nutty roasted coffee bean and dark chocolate flavor. Medium bodied and fairly creamy. Could be nice, but something weird happened here.

On tap @ Coles Buffalo NY. Along with Smutty my go to porter. Rather shocked I have not rated this yet. Pours a deep dark brownish black. Aroma is full of roasted malts, slight bitterness, some chocolate. Nice fuller mouthfeel. Great porter

@ the tasting session by Joes. A dark red/brown colored beer, with a small beige head. An aroma of dark fruits like prune, dates and raisins. The taste of dark roasted malts, dried dark fruits. It’s dry bitter. The aftertaste is also dry bitter. A very good beer.

On tap @ Maproom. Solid Porter! Dark, almost black, but with some ruby around the edges. Nice white head, an excellent contrast. Smell was very pleasing. The taste was great. Chochlates, coffee, and all around goodness.

Pours dark mahogany with amber hues on the edges. A half-inch head of beige had moderate retention and smears of lacework lasted throughout. Roasted coffee, dark malts, caramel, nougat, and oreo shells fill the nose. Very clean and balanced, with a high level of complexity for a porter. Fullish bodied, shy of thick. A happy medium between chewy and ordinary. Creamy. Roasted malt, coffee, bitter chocolate, and an underlying fruit note lead off the pallet. A firm, drying bitterness follows through along with brownie bits and biscuits. Finishes with lingering bitter chocolate, and fading cookie crumbs. Nice job on this one, very quaffable without being boring.
