Looks like a porter should - dark, thin persistent tan head. Nut , coffee and cocoa in the flavor. Not as oily feeling as other porters. Hops present in aftertaste. Smooth finish. Well done. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 6, 2008 Whoa. This is the best beer I’ve had from Great Lakes Brewing Company. Dark, almost black. Tan head is beautiful. Dark chocalate and silk in the taste, feels great in the mouth. Some nuttiness in the aftertaste. Aftertaste lingers a bit. A brilliantly executed porter. | 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Aug 1, 2008 I just poured this into the beer glass, it pours a dark, but slightly see through black, with little off white head. At first sip, I’m thinking I might have gotten a bad bottle, especially given it’s score. It seems a bit over carbonated and less malty than it should be. mcmd (144), Louisville, Kentucky, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 30, 2008 pours a very dark brown with at nice lasting tan head. Aroma of dark chocolate and espresso with faint hops. Flavor similar with roasted chocolate malt, coffee, and a perfect amount of hop presence in the finish which is a pleasant deviation from most porters. My favorite porter and my favorite from Great Lakes. Arnie (272), Chicagoland, IL, Illinois, USA

Flavors of thick, roasted espresso beans and mild chocolate. Nose like cold-brewed coffee. lebshiff21 (85), Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 27, 2008 Bottle from Capone’s. Almost tastes more like a stoudt than a porter. Pours very dark with a thin off white head. A bit thin on the palate but very well balanced. Very roasty will obvious notes of coffee and chocolate.
