Far and away the best beer in the sampler. TheCaptain (559), Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA

Hope to get this again, would like to try on tap! Nice roasted aroma and taste. Dark chocolate and coffee flavors with some sweetness. Good balance and smooth. Would like to try again real soon. raiderfost (158), virginia beach, Virginia, USA

I would have to agree with a earlier poster and say that porters sometimes are a little to sweet for my liking but this one is not. Nice balance of hops, roasted malts, and chocolate flavors. Great beer. MaltOne (61), USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 11, 2008 Decent. Deep red brown in color, brief pale head. Lots of flavor - balanced but with a definite preference to the hops, slightly sweet on the edges. Dark roasted coffee, a little treacle and licorice, a little bittersweet chocolate.
Light on the palette compared to some, but flavor intensity llingers well.

Hops from the aroma, then tons of roasted barley flavor with tons of hops, also with a great finish. A smooth drinking nice bodied beer. gpekar (228), Maryland, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 9, 2008 A bottle from a Great Lakes variety pack. It poured a dark brown with cherry highlights around the edges. There was a very thin head that disappeared quickly. A very nice aroma of dark chocolate and roated coffee. The flavor was also of a good dark chocolate and hints of roated coffee. There was just a hint of a bitter undertone and a real nice mellow finish. Very good Porter!! Taste is more roasted/toasty malts with a definitive chocolate backbone. Nice balance between the chocolate and roast/coffee. No dominate flavors. Soft carbonation with a medium-full body. Bitterness is subdued, but notable. Really good, but not "great". BeerGear (14), Hilton, New York, USA
