bottle courtesy of ucusty....thanks for knocking down my wants list....BB1/28/08 pours very dark brown with red hints and a small cocoa colored head. powdered cocoa aroma with some roasty metallic malts. flavor is bitter/burnt/roasted malts with some chocolate and a nice ashiness. dry finish and lingering aftertaste are of coffee. nice acidity in the mouth feel with lots of carbonation. a little thin and lacking depth but highly drinkable in quantity.

Draft. Served at cellar temperature. Poured a dark dark brown color with orange highlights. Head was three fingers high with good retention and lacing. Smelled of caramel, butterscotch, and light roasty malt. Slightly sweet on the tongue with mild roasty bitterness throughout. Flavor was dominated by roasty malt with a hint of cardboard.

Oily in color with a bone color head which had great lacing and retention. Aroma was a mix of dark chocolate and coffee. Flavor was similar with a slight hop kick giving it an almost dry finish.

nice full-bodied dark pour. a hint of coffee in the scent and taste. no way this is 60 IBU’s. must be hidden by the roast. a little on the thin side.

I like this the best of the year round Great Lakes brews. A little chocolate and coffee and great mouthfeel. If you’re going to try Great Lakes and like porters, this is worth a try.

This porter poured a dark black colour with a nice smooth tan head. To the nose there was scents of molassass, caramel, brown sugar and malt, maybe a little cocoa. First taste was roasty with a full flavour of smokey/burnt malt. The finish had a flavour of coffee and a wee bit of hops. Palate, burnt.
