| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Aug 15, 2007 Wonderful, complex aroma with a distinct chocolate flavor. Not a whole lot of body despite the fact that it starts off with a strong chocolate taste and finishes roasted and mildly of coffee. Not the biggest fan of Porters, but this one is quite drinkable. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 11, 2007 Bottle from Capone’s - thanks for making all those long trips Matt! Haven’t had this one since before I started rating so I decided to try along with my favorite porter - GLI Chocolate Thunder. This guy has a nice dark brown body with a med-large beige head. Aroma has a nice roasty malt essence with bits of nut, coffee, and chocolate poking through. Flavor is pleasantly complex with roasty malt and chocolate upfront, a nice hop finish towards the end with coffee throughout. Just a solid, tasty porter that I can drink lots of. As for the Chocolate Thunder? Still my top pick, but EF is the perfect porter for pre-meal and during the meal, while CT is a fantastic dessert. Thank god I can get such great porters in PA!
