| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 11, 2007 Bottle from Capone’s - thanks for making all those long trips Matt! Haven’t had this one since before I started rating so I decided to try along with my favorite porter - GLI Chocolate Thunder. This guy has a nice dark brown body with a med-large beige head. Aroma has a nice roasty malt essence with bits of nut, coffee, and chocolate poking through. Flavor is pleasantly complex with roasty malt and chocolate upfront, a nice hop finish towards the end with coffee throughout. Just a solid, tasty porter that I can drink lots of. As for the Chocolate Thunder? Still my top pick, but EF is the perfect porter for pre-meal and during the meal, while CT is a fantastic dessert. Thank god I can get such great porters in PA! dankman38 (228), Somewhere in, Ohio, USA

A little bit of a light body for a porter but has all the same tasty goodness of a heavier beer. TheBeerGod (3171), Newport News, Virginia, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 8, 2007 Bottle courtesy of my friend Alan. Last of the set. He picked up some Great Lakes stuff while on vacation in Pennsylvania. He had some other but the last three I haven’t rated before. Near black pour to me, but the lightning in his basement isn’t exceptional. Small tan head. Nose is roasted malts, coffee, and dark chocolate. Light hops too. The least "attractive" of the beers we had but only because of the extreme heat. Taste is more roasted malts, cold coffee, hops and bittersweet chocolate. Palate is moderately tingly and not too heavy, for a porter. Finishes with more roasty malts, coffee and chocolate. A by-the-numbers porter but delicious nonetheless. Would be a fine session beer in, say, November. Dansting (222), Overland Park, Kansas, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 7, 2007 Bottle. Poured a dark brown color with a medium light-brown head. Strong lacing. Aroma is very coffee-like with hints of roasted malt and chocolate. Mouthfeel is nice. Flavor is heavy in coffee, with a chocolate finish to it. A very nice porter. jstraw (776), Chicago, Illinois, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 6, 2007 One of the best porters I’ve had by a long shot. Black (why should I come up with a clever adjective? That’s what it is), with a decent brownish head. Mild body. Roasted coffee and some herbal hops. Quite. fairly bitter in the finish. No nonsense, just great beer. crushinat0r (227), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
