Commercial Description:
Deep Amber red color, with a fragrant malt aroma. Flavorful notes of rich caramelized malt and noble hop flavors harmonize on the palate leading to a crisp clean finish. Named after one of Cleveland's most respected safety directors, who frequented the brewpub's bar during his tenure from 1935-1941 and, according to popular legend, was responsible for the bullet holes still evident today.

12 oz. bottle. Pours amber with a medium sized frothy cream head. Aroma is caramel, malt, biscuit, and overall very inviting. Taste follows with rich malt sweetness and a surprising hop bite in the finish to keep it from being too cloying. Incredibly drinkable.

12oz bottle. Pours deep amber with a nice creamy head. Perfectly balanced malts and hops with subtle caramel sweetness make this an extremely drinkable brew. A real winner.

WARNING! May have had a bad sample, based on others’ ratings. The aroma was malt-dominated with slight hop overtones. Taste is lacking hops completely and malt tastes funny. Not a good funny either. Cloying sour flavor with minimal sweetness. Strange from such a malty brew. Disappointing. There are much better ambers out there.

12oz - Nice amber pour under dark tan head, substantial froth of small bubbles. Honey on nose. Light wood in the front, offsetting a bitter, flat aftertaste. This tastes like a bad bottle. Looking at nearby recent ratings I’m wondering if they’ve had a bad batch.

On tap at brewery. Pours a lovely carmel color. The head is cream colored and is wonderfully thick and full. It remains throughout and laces the glass nicely. The aroma is malty and spicy. The flavor is noticably hoppy with some light spice and caramel notes. Finishes rather dry along side the sweet malty background.

Glowing copper color with a tight head. Malty caramel aroma with mild pit fruit spiciness. Smooth medium body. Taste is malt driven caramel/toffee sweetness with some nice fruity floral flavors. Draft@ Lakes CLE airport.

12 oz bottle. Poured a deep ruby red color with a small off-white head. Aroma was very sweet malt. Taste was malty with an aftertaste that was a little off.

Draught in a sampler at GBL. Clear coppery color. Thick in mouth with notable coffee and caramel malts.
