Jul 27, 2008 Pours brown in color with ruby brown highlights around the edges. Nice frothy inch of head forms on the pour. Smell is all malt and some sweetness. Very metallic/off flavor in the taste. Gets a bit cloying as well. First beer I’ve had from Great Lakes that has been subpar.

Jul 27, 2008 Bottle shared by aspidites, attractive clear, bright yet dark amber pour, but the rest was downhil. Very vegital in the nose, and it carried into the flavor.

Jul 27, 2008 (Sampled 7-14-08 at Brownings Brewery) Dark amber in color, tan head that laced. Faint aroma of malt. Hits the mouth with a medium body, malt comes in nicely, a turpentine bitterness appears in the middle and lasts well after the finish. Old keg? Up for a rerate down the line...

Jul 26, 2008 Cleveland, Oh - Progressive Field - Indians/Twins game - 12 oz bottle. Medium copper pour, thick khaki colored head, nice lace. Hint of chocolate in the aroma. Sweet flavor with hints of caramel, toffee and some cotton candy. Thickish mouthfeel. Pretty solid.

Jul 25, 2008 I am not a big fan of Great Lakes, the finish on most of their beers really puts me off for some reason and Eliot Ness follows suit.
Aroma is nice and sweet with hints orange. Hints of orange hit me through the entire experience. Color is and amber/orange with an off-white head. Nice matly flavor up front that becomes more bitter towards then end and finishes with an odd bitter flavor that hangs in my mouth unenjoyably.

Jul 22, 2008 The thanks go out to Crizay tonight! Pours reddish burnt orange with an off-white head, more substantial than German counterparts, but still dissipating. Aroma of toast, toffee, slight dark fruit, light hazelnut. Hops are faint, but fruity on the nose. Well blended aroma. Sweet caramel taste, some toffee, light bread crust and earthy dirtlike hop flavor. Finishes with a leafy hop taste, toast, bark, with some lingering caramel flavor intermingling with the earthy bitterness. Light mouthfeel, but full flavors make it seem better. Medium carbonation. This is very good, what more could you want from a Vienna?

Jul 21, 2008 Great Lakes Sample Pack from Woodman’s Oak Creek.
Great Color Red bordering burnt orange. Crystal clear, with impressive carbonation and an ivory head. Aroma is toffee, caramel, and a hint of roasted nuts. Flavor is mostly malt, with just enough hops to balance it out. Highly drinkable...clean and refreshing.
