Holdwine (904), Beertimore, Maryland, USA May 22, 2008 At Savor. Kick ass amber! Heavier than most vienna’s but who cares. Caramel and toffee throughout. Perfect malt/hop interplay with a tight slightly bitter dry finish. Yum Gregis (1132), Shawnee, Kansas, USA May 14, 2008 Bottle courtesy of mreusch. Best by 03/22/08. Pours a clear, dark copper with a finger of creamy, beige head. The nose is a fairly straightforward blend of bready malt and lightly spicy/earthy hops. Medium-bodied and slick with creamy carbonation and a toasty, bitter finish. Toasted caramel malt with a solid noble-hopped backing; nicely balanced. Even past its "best by" date, this beer is well deserving of its status as the highest rated Vienna on this site. The next time I get the opportunity to buy more of this, I won’t hesitate to do so. Thanks again for this bottle, Matt! pineypower (1076), Pine Barrens, New Jersey, USA May 14, 2008 Forget where I got this one from, found in my cellar clean out recently. Pours out a nice clear amber with a thin two finger head. Aroma is nice and malty with a touch of bitterness. Taste is straight forward and very clean. Nice malty tastes with some good bite in there too. Drinkable zootfinster (179), Chicago, Illinois, USA May 13, 2008 A really tasty beer. Pours a nice medium amber with medium head. Malty semi sweet taste and medium carbonation. A really fine lager that I will continue to drink Stine (1380), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA May 12, 2008 Pours clear, amber red. Aroma of soft, toasty caramel malts. Lagered touches of overripe red fruits and pears, with a drying waft of noble grassiness. White pepper. Toffee. Pristinely clean. Flavor of deep, toasty grains, slightly buttery, soaked in this calm, soothing fruit tone of blackberry and apple. Glowing malt characters arrange themselves with artful care and precision. Almost contemplative in its ease and simplicity. Like fresh baked wheat bread, buttered warmly and lightly spiced, and taken with a side of unsweetened cranberries. Medium body is generous and expansive in the mouth. Finishes very cleanly, with the lightest kick of noble hops drawing out. A smart, comfortable, pitch-perfect vienna. Thanks Bill! MadIndian (987), Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA May 10, 2008 Bottle from Canals, Coppery amber pur with a caramel malt aroma. Sweet malt flavors that actually taste full in the mouth. There is a bitter finish to it but I liked it. xnoxhatex (1305), Grand Rapids/Chicago, Michigan, USA May 7, 2008 Sample at West Lakeview Liquors, Chicago, Great Lakes Tasting. Interesting to see that this is the top-rated vienna. Good job Great Lakes. Darker amber color with medium off-white head. Aroma is very much caramel and noble, spicy hops. Flavor is along the same lines with some graininess as well. Medium to thin body and well carbonated. Not bad. nitroz680 (31), Ohio, USA Apr 30, 2008 Pretty bitter, as compared to the typical beer i drink, but very good. you can definitely taste the caramel and the hops. i had this out of a great lakes variety pack. i probably wouldnt buy it as its own six pack, because i like to drink a bunch of this flavors at a time.
