inkubus27 (237), Highland, Indiana, USA Sep 7, 2009 I tried the Great Lakes Oktoberfest before this... and they seem like identical beers to me... So yeah, this pours a deep amber, nice frothy tan head... not much of an aroma... Really malty, almost zero bitterness.... A great session beer.. I actually really like this stuff, and it’s great for football season derkaiser (24), Ohio, USA Sep 7, 2009 I grew up near the GLBC so I am very familiar with their products. I had Eliot Ness for the first time at a recent wedding that had a variety of GL beers. I enjoyed it the most out of what was presented. I nice smooth taste to it. jimmiec (37), Louisiana, USA Sep 6, 2009 12 oz bottle (Wine Works, Springfield, OH) - Aroma: low toasted (malt) Appearance: reddish amber color, clear, and white head; Flavor: low toasted (malt), malty, dry finish, low to mod bitter; Mouthfeel: mod body, med carbonation; Overall: dry, complex malty, hopped beer. williamherbert (420), Syracuse, New York, USA Aug 30, 2009 Clear, glassy reddish orange. Big creamy head. Tiny, slow carbonation bubbles. Head is proud and sturdy.
The smell is earthy amber malt. A mild flowery hop. Rich and bready. Estery to balance the gritty malt. Darn good.
The malt is still earthy like soil, but also German bitter. A little flowery in the hop with a bitter citrus spice. Not bad. Caramel and butterscotch at the tail end. Hops poke through with more warmth.
The feel is smooth but with a gritty, rougher texture at the swallow. A solid amber. Balanced, earthy, bitter and flavorful. KyotoLefty (1370), Kyoto, Japan Aug 28, 2009 Bottled. Deep amber color with cherry tints. Big hop bitterness with medium to full Vienna malt flavor. Smooth and well rounded with a strong, hoppy finish. the malt is slightly over-run by the bitterness, but altogether an interesting, flavorful interpretation. Alasdair (76), New Zealand Aug 27, 2009 smooth malt aroma with spice and toast. A touch of alcohol too. Caramel, brown suger, vanilla, and brown bread. Just enough bitterness to balance the malt.
