nearbeer (1833), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA May 7, 2007 Draft, Clevleand airport. Copper-red with small head that hangs and leaves nice frosty lace. Aroma is malty and sourish. I think this beer and some others sampled at this location have seen some hours at elevated keg temperatures; I suspect in transport from the brewery. Flavor is toasted nut and grain, with nice slight hop balance. Palate is light-medium and fizzy, with some hop tingle at the end. Hop more noticeable in the aftertaste, pretty nice. Duster72 (117), Indianapolis, Indiana, USA May 5, 2007 Pours a nice reddish amber color with a off white one finger head with fair retention and lacing. Aroma is all sweet malts. Taste is slightly offputting to me -- this might be an old bottle. Smooth malts with hints of sweetness with a slightly sour off flavor. Mouthfeel is smooth and refreshing. Very drinkable. locarboy (115), USA May 4, 2007 Nice pour. Creamy head and orange amber clear color. Full flavor with a great balance. Another great effort from great lakes. Toffee caramel with lingering bitterness that is just right. Great from the first sip to the last. Yes, I’ll have another. PhillyBeer2112 (2084), Orange Park, Florida, USA Apr 28, 2007 Nicely done! Reddish amber color, one finger khaki head, foaming and lasting. Somewhaqt mild aroma, but hints at a toffee like sweetness, a deep earthiness, and some green noble hop. Flavor exquisitely balanced, with a full rounded bready sweetness and a lightly spicy and floral hop character that leads to a medium bitter finish. Clean and well brewed. shintriad (698), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Apr 26, 2007 Not their best work, but a pretty solid beer. Good balance of malts and decent hopping for an old-school Vienna. Dark chocolate notes and a hint of woody dried fruit. Bit flat in the body and not much in the way of aromatics. Very fresh-tasting. CheersBabe (62), USA Apr 24, 2007 An interestingly full bodies amber lager with a quality bite. Overall a great taste for the price. If you can find this beer... enjoy a10555 (123), West Chester, Ohio, USA Apr 14, 2007 Nice, and inexpensive at the local grocery store. Will definitely go back to this bottle. Good taste and Great Lakes put out another nice beer. FROTHINGSLOSH (1961), GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 9, 2007 Updated: Aug 27, 2007Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a beautiful ruby-chestnut color with a large dark tan head. The aroma was sour, tangy and very malty. The flavor was tangy, bitter, nutty, very malty and had a moderate floral hop presence. The finish was long and malty. The body was surprisingly thick. Nice.
