FROTHINGSLOSH (1961), GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 9, 2007 Updated: Aug 27, 2007Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a beautiful ruby-chestnut color with a large dark tan head. The aroma was sour, tangy and very malty. The flavor was tangy, bitter, nutty, very malty and had a moderate floral hop presence. The finish was long and malty. The body was surprisingly thick. Nice. pet3rman (206), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 6, 2007 Pours amber with malt aroma and some hops. Some sweetness to it. Hints of hoppyness. Overall decent. dwyerpg (2519), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Apr 5, 2007 Maybe I got a funky bottle, but this is the only GL beer I’ve had so far that I wouldn’t get again. Smell is way too malty and look is very carbanted. The taste is very malty and a little plaiting, nothing that I really like. Beerdedone (1873), Croydon, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 2, 2007 Bottle sampled with stegosaurus. Pours a amber color with a white head. Aroma of caramel malts Taste is crips and malty with a touch of hop bitterness. a good brew. Ambrose (141), East Aurora, New York, USA Apr 1, 2007 Updated: Apr 4, 2007My favorite great lakes so far. Enjoyed this beer incredibly. Makes me feel like a man. Which is sad, cause I am a man. hopson (591), Williamsville, New York, USA Mar 31, 2007 I admit that this is not my favorite style, but I would expect more from Great Lakes. I like the idea of them having a lager, and the front end of it is tasty and refreshing, but the sweet finish is really uneccesary. Its pretty much a brown ale, and not very good. I wish they would have erred more on the side of pilsner. Too sweet. jonwayne4883 (401), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA Mar 30, 2007 pretty flavorful beer, some caramel flavor to it, slight aftertaste. worth the try but probably not a repeat. jerc (3861), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Mar 27, 2007 Updated: Jul 3, 2007June 2007. Draft at the brewpub. Dark amber body, small white head. Toasty malt aroma, and something I can’t place - like toffee/caramel, but not quite that. Similarly toasty malt in the flavour, light balancing bitterness. Alcohol is deceptively absent. Average palate. Decent. I had hoped for a significant improvement over my bottled sample, but while the draft was better, it was not a dramatic improvement. 6+/3/7/3/14 3.4
<P>March 2007. Bottle. Rich amber brown body, small creamy beige head (3+). Fruity, malty aroma that smells a lot like the sweet caramel and malt of fresh malt extract (not saying they used extract, just that it has similar aromas). Malty flavour, caramel, light bitterness in the finish. Tangy aftertaste. Average to medium palate is a touch undercarbonated. Pleasant but does not knock my socks off. Less hoppy than I expected - It is nearing the expiry date so perhaps it is not 100%. Reminds me of HOTD for some reason. 6/3/6/3/12 - 3
