TomDecapolis (3130), Skippack, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 21, 2007 On tap at Capone’s during the Great Lakes tasting. Pours a lightly hazy golden with just hints of some amber and a medium foamy white lacing head. Aroma of citurs hops, kind of grassy, lemony, foral with more fresh hoppiness than I expected from the style. Flavor had a very intersting spiciness going on at first, bready, kind of earthy, yeast and tea. stegosaurus (1882), Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 21, 2007 Bottle sampled from Capone’s. Pours deep copper with an off-white head. Aroma of toasted caramel malts, nuts, and slight traces of hops in the nose. The flavor is is toast, caramel, nuts, and a mild bitter finish. Good brew. ilovedarkbeer (1326), Dallas, Texas, USA Mar 18, 2007 Pours a rich amber color with a hoppy nose and thin reddish head. Nice taste that goes down easy and has a lasting finish. Hops are a bit weak in the taste but overall this is a decent beer. Chitown440 (15), chicago, Illinois, USA Mar 7, 2007 After reading many great reviews I bought a six pack of E.N. along with another another great lakes label. Neither one lived up to the hype i had read but this one seemed somewhat drinkable but not worth the money in my opinion. minch25 (346), Columbus, Ohio, USA Mar 4, 2007 Dark honey color, thick creamy white head. Toasty caramel aroma and flavor. Mild bitterness. Not really a whole lot to say about this. It’s certainly a well made lager, enjoyable and good to have around, yet nothing spectacular. joe1510 (501), Illinois, USA Mar 3, 2007 From a 12oz. bottle
Eliot Ness poured a very nice, very clear amber. Some red highlights when held to the light. The head was white and creamy with a few larger bubbles mixed in. Only about quarter inch head which disappeared rather quickly to just a light sprinkling on top throughout the drink. Minimal lacing. This beer looked real good except for the head dissapating so quickly.
The smell is just average. Smells of grain and maybe a little husk? It’s strange but for some reason theres something in there that brings to mind a wet dog. I also pick up a tiny touch of sweet malt and when it warms a little alcohol.
The taste is very good. A slight sourness on the tongue at first followed by quickly maltiness and a touch of bitterness to finish things off. As it warms it brings out a tiny bit of alcohol.
Medium bodied. Not a whole lot of carbonation. Tastes right.
Dickinsonbeer (3434), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA Feb 23, 2007 glbc. Pours a nice deep gold with a fluffy lasting head and great lacing. Aroma of nutty toasty and bready malts with a nice light metallic and moslty herbal hop character. Toasty malt flavors with light munichs or vienna malts, nutty, and biscuity with a slight sweetness and a great crisp bitterness. Nice and easy to drink. Poperinge (359), Cowtown, Alberta, Canada Feb 20, 2007 A well made Vienna pretty much says it, I have liked everything I have had from this brewery.
