WeeHeavySD (2932), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA Jan 23, 2007 12 oz bottle via trade with Monger, Thanks for the hookup. This is my first Vienna rating, and its been a while since I can remember looking forward to a lager. Pours light amber with a puffy white head that lost half its steam and settled a finger height above the brew. The smell is malty and fresh. Taste is crips and malty, but clearly a different animal when compared to ales. It has a nice full mouth feeling and is quite drinkable. beerbuzzmontreal (2909), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Jan 22, 2007 On tap at the brewery. Clear pale amber pour with a thin light brown head. Good aroma and flavor of biscuity malt and caramel, the malt is round and flavorfull. The body is medium with an oily texture and soft carbonation. A very solid vienna. MrBendo (1039), Swedesboro, New Jersey, USA Jan 21, 2007 Thanks to RagallachMC for the bottle. Clear orange/copper with almost no head. Aroma is generally light, with caramel and nutty malts. Some bitter taste comes in too. Especially at the finish. Medium body. Soft carbonation. Certainly better than average for the style. MrChris (110), Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA Jan 20, 2007 Pours red amber in color with a light tan head that disappears by mid-beer. Very little carbonation in the glass. Small caramel malt aroma. Satisfying caramel taste. Gentle frothy, slightly warm mouth feel, but a little flat and syrupy. BeerBelcher (930), Columbus, Ohio, USA Jan 9, 2007 Great Lakes is one of a select few breweries that seem to never disappoint, and this is another quality offering from them. I was expecting very little from an amber lager (based on many disappointing amber ales I’ve had), but this beer over-delivered on appearance and taste.
It poured a vibrant copper-red color that gleamed in the glass. Head formation was great, but looked slightly soapy when it went away.
Aroma was a bit faint, but more abundant than a lot of amber ales, and is malty and bready.
Taste is of caramel malt with some sweetness at the finish, and is quite good.
Mouthfeel is extremely substantial for a lager, and feels appropriate. I found this beer to be very drinkable.
ogglethorp (882), Ohio, USA Jan 4, 2007 Bottle. Pours a dark amber color with a fairly large light tan head. Aroma is sweet fruit, malt, caramel. Flavor is dried fruit, malt, caramel, some floral hops. Palate is medium light, medium carbonation, clean finish. Another great beer. Crowd pleaser. grimreeser (795), Minnesota, USA Jan 1, 2007 Updated: Jan 2, 2007Pours a nice amber with a good sized light tan head. Very nice aroma, caramel and light flowery hops. Nice sweetness. Dubbercody (214), Vancouver, Washington, USA Jan 1, 2007 Dark amber with a fluffy head that falls into leaving a film of bubbles....the nose is just as described, malty but mostly caramel that lead into a taste that gives a creamy caramel flavor. Nice Vienna in this taste of Great Lakes Day.
