awaisanen (1279), Irvine, California, USA Oct 18, 2006 From 12oz Bottle. Lovely,
transparent pour of rich mahogany, topped with a well sustaining head of ivory foam. Pleasant malty aromas of light vanilla, maple, and almond skins waft from my glass, accompanied by a touch of herbal hops for balance. Crisply carbonated, light, refreshing mouthfeel. Mmm... very nice. Subtly layered malt flavors roll gracefully across the tongue. Some nice caramelized maply syrup melds nicely with some woody bark before finishing with a final smack of nutty, light chocolate brownies. Thanks, Tom! buckybeer (666), Eau Claire, Wisconsin, USA Oct 17, 2006 Updated: Jan 16, 2007Pours a darkish clear amber with a decent but quick fading head. Beautiful color. Light malts and hops. Has a nice clean crisp taste. It is not the best beer in the world but whenever I see some I buy it. A great on to have on hand at all times. cheapdark (2011), Monacatootha, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 8, 2006 Updated: Nov 5, 2006Yeast aroma upon opening the bottle. Taste is better than the dortmunder and the burning river probably because bitter hops turns my taste buds. Has a good finish without the lingering bitterness of the other two. I must say this is only slightly better than your typical pale yellow american beer. Will not buy again.
So far, edmund fitz is the best of the variety pack. I still must taste holy moses, but don’t care for that name. ross (1709), weddington, South Carolina, USA Oct 5, 2006 Bottle from Scott, Thanks! Pours out a dark brown color without much of a head at all. Smell is rich and fruity, with some caramel and malt hints. Taste is smooth and refreshing, mouthfeel is pretty smooth. Certainly deserving of its top in this style, as Ive not had a better Vienna. Good beer, very good session beer. Cliff (355), Avon Lake, Ohio, USA Oct 5, 2006 overall, my least favorite GL beer that i have had. pretty boring, not much aroma and/or flavor, ok mouthfeel. GL can do better. edfitz (114), Toledo, Ohio, USA Sep 23, 2006 Another can’t miss from Great Lakes. Disappointed that they have decided to distribute the Holy Moses instead of this beer. Nicely hopped with carmelized malts. I have enjoyed this for years, and will now have a harder time finding it. IrishBoy (2686), Bakersfield, California, USA Sep 23, 2006 Bottle from The Epeeist; Thanks Chris; Nose of grain and caramel malt; kind of lagerish; color of oxidized copper with a small, quick to disappear, beige haed; flavor of malt, caramel, and raisins, with a molasses hint, leading to a small hop finish. Lumpy (1802), Carrollton, Texas, USA Sep 22, 2006 Bottle. Dark amber body with a thick film of bubbles. Nose-apple, hay, caramel. Taste-sweet husk, lactic, hay, low-medium bitterness, apple juice, lightly syrupy. Pretty good, but can be easily summed up in four words: apple juice and husk.
