Ferociousaurus (35), Louisville, Kentucky, USA Jul 18, 2009 Some head with decent lacing. Dark orange-brownish body. Strong floral hop aroma belies a very balanced brew. Significant but not overbearing hoppy bitterness with a well-balanced chocolate malt presence. Guerde (693), Welcome, Minnesota, USA Jul 15, 2009 (bottle from OSLO) Pours out dark amber with a thin white head that quickly subsides. The aroma is nice and toasty initially, with scents of light caramel and peanut brittle. As this warms a vegetal aroma arises, and lends a stir-fried pea pod quality to the aroma. The taste was also quite toasty and salty, which reminded me of roasted peanuts. There is a light sweetness in the beginning as well. The finish is fairly dry and lightly bitter with a medium mouthfeel and smooth carbonation. A simple, yet easily approachable and downright drinkable beer. Thanks Al! OSLO (825), Perth, Australia Jul 15, 2009 [Bottle] Pours clear reddish-amber with a small beige head. Aroma is floral hops, snap peas, and some alcohol. Taste has lots and lots of barley, light sweetness up front, and some subdued bitterness. Medium-thin mouthfeel, very smooth, and has an extremely long finish. Very simple, but enjoyable, and something that would be an outstanding session beer. j12601 (1149), Poughkeepsie, New York, USA Jul 15, 2009 Bottle. Clear deep crimson with a medium to large white head. Grainy, light malt, touch of sweetness. Thin to medium body, lightly sweet, touch of caramel. Finishes with almost a hint of a metallic twang, and a refined gentle bitterness.
fromred2green (141), , Ohio, USA Jul 14, 2009 Bottle. Pours dark amber with a foamy beige head. Aroma is slightly hoppy, yet smooth and balanced. Flavor is a perfect blend of hops and malt; this beer is neither too bitter nor too malty. Pretty good. MereLikesBeer (153), Royal Oak, Michigan, USA Jul 9, 2009 I had this on tap, it poured a nice dark color. I didn’t know what kind of beer it was when I ordered it, and I was wary, thinking it might have been a stout when it arrived at the table because it was pretty dark. It had a nice malty caramel aroma. Tasted pretty good too. It was sweet, but had a nice mouthfeel, light carbonation and a pretty malty taste. Overall, pretty good beverage. Avengedpoet (325), Mesa, Arizona, USA Jul 7, 2009 From a bottle. Pours dark brown/amber. Simultaneously nutty and hoppy aroma. Extremely well-balanced and drinkable. A nice level of chocolatey roast inter-mingled with a fresh dose of hops and precise carbonation. One of those beers you can drink all night. Different and tasty enough to be fantastic. lordsummerisle (17), New York, USA Jul 2, 2009 12 oz. bottle. Pours copper with thin off-white head. Aroma is malty with pine notes and slight alcohol. Taste is sweet caramel malt and nuts with a nice hop finish. Extremely well balanced. A little too dry in the finish perhaps. Still, this might be the best dark lager I’ve ever had--admittedly I’m not usually an aficionado of the style. Very good, worth seeking out.
