beeryum (652), Norcross, Georgia, USA Sep 30, 2005 Bottle. Clear dark amber pour. Nice toasty nutty caramel sweet malt aromas and flavors, some light spicy hop. Clean finish and decent body. Good vienna lager. IMtheOptimator (1161), Bethel, Connecticut, USA Sep 22, 2005 Thanks to OhioDad for this beer.
Poured a clear effervescent dark amber with a small fizzy off-white head which dissipated completely. Aroma of spicy caramel and a touch of hops. Taste is somewhat sweet caramel and molasses with a grassy hop finish that is rather clean and refreshing. Definitely has its simple roots, but also enough complexity that says that this isn’t any run-of-the-mill session lager. Nicely done. rajendra82 (698), Alpharetta, Georgia, USA Sep 4, 2005 Deep amber colored body with a perfectly proportioned beige head made this a very attractive looking beer. The beer was well carbonated, but not fizzy. Aromatically clean and unobtrusive, the beer had a malty, floral, sweetish smell. The taste was also pleasant, with a toffee like sweetness, spicy hops, and a touch of mandarin orange sourness. There was not much hop bitterness, but the well attenuated beer did not suffer much because of it. Very clean and easy drinking beer with a simple but flawless construction typical of classic German styles. tiggmtl (4307), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Sep 2, 2005 Bready, toasty malts and some light vegetal tones in the aroma. Deep copper-amber with low white head that recedes to partial cover and ring. Leafy hops, bready malts and fairly assertive and lasting bitterness. Light body with moderate to strong, pinpoint prickly carbonation. Bottle (BB9/30/05) sampled with Olivier MTL and Rastacouere.
Lou18 (1353), West Paterson, New Jersey, USA Aug 31, 2005 OhioDad, thanks. Poured a deep fizzy amber. Tanh creamy head. Nose is hops, but a bit nutty, and something else. The taste has nose buttery notes, I have to say, this was not the best from Great Lakes. SuIIy (1406), Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts, USA Aug 28, 2005 Bottle. Pours medium amber w/ small light tan head. Nose is caramel and nutty. NIce and thick with lots of nuts, caramel. Light hopps come through in the nose and taste as the beer warms. jde123 (715), Washington, Washington DC, USA Aug 26, 2005 Definately my favorite selection in the Great Lakes Brewing Company sampler pack I purchased in South Bend, Indiana. This darkly ruddy beer has all the flavor of roasted malts, hops, caramel that one would want. Fantastic aroma gives way to fantastic flavor, a nice full experience. I really enjoyed this one. Retorp (2154), Tampa, Florida, USA Aug 26, 2005 Updated: Oct 16, 2005Sweet malt aroma with an unusual hint of sweet potato. Copper with little head. Very light and refreshing with hints of caramel malt. The malt profile becomes more pronounced as it warms. A very nice reward after mowing grass in the Florida summer heat.
