Commercial Description:
Deep Amber red color, with a fragrant malt aroma. Flavorful notes of rich caramelized malt and noble hop flavors harmonize on the palate leading to a crisp clean finish. Named after one of Cleveland's most respected safety directors, who frequented the brewpub's bar during his tenure from 1935-1941 and, according to popular legend, was responsible for the bullet holes still evident today.

This beer has a very nice color and body, but a slim fading head. The smell and taste are sweet, with maybe some roast, and full of flavor on the palate. The aftertaste is bitter-sweet. A very, very good Vienna.

Bright red with an average head that unfortunately didn’t last long. Subtle caramel carries the aroma. The flavor is likewise caramel-based, with a syrupy-grape finish. Decent enough to drink some more.

Diminishing white head, clear earthy amber bnody. Leafy, slightly caramely nose. A slight earthiness matches the generous cerealic malts with ease. Dark grapes and biscuit flavors are plentiful, but I certainly expected one of the top vienna to be richer, it is a fairly hoppy example, in a most leafy way, possibly spalt hops or a similar type. Slightly vegetal, heavy munich malt does, almost roasty at times, dryish. light bodied, gentle soft carbonation.

A toastiness that cooled me off on a hot summer day. I need to make an hour trip up north to visit this fine brewery.

Amber copper colored beer. Very malty aroma. Carmel malts and mild hops make a nice aroma. Nice smooth flavor and a great malt sweetness. Again, carmel malts are taking the upfront possition with citrus hops sitting in the background. Nice clean beer.

Drink by April, 2005. Pours an amber-brick color. Not 100% clear but not hazy. Minimal carbonation and a small white head. Sweet malt and lightly fruitish hops on the nose. Flavor is very well balanced. Malt and hops (citrus and spice) compete for some dominance but none really gets a big leg up. Malt is ultimately what you have to discuss here. Sweet caramel and general maltyness (toasty is an after thought). Really very nice and quaffable. Not a huge lager fan but his one is on the money.

12 oz. bottle. Deep red with a brown tinge to it and a good light tan head. Aroma is dominated by fruity hops and caramel malt. Taste starts bitter then is balanced by the roasted malt flavor. Bitter, smoky finish that rounds it out nicely. A very good beer (although I would still pick Lakefront’s Riverwest Stein over this one).
