Commercial Description:
Deep Amber red color, with a fragrant malt aroma. Flavorful notes of rich caramelized malt and noble hop flavors harmonize on the palate leading to a crisp clean finish. Named after one of Cleveland's most respected safety directors, who frequented the brewpub's bar during his tenure from 1935-1941 and, according to popular legend, was responsible for the bullet holes still evident today.

[381-20070630] Tap @ Great Lakes (Cleveland, OH). Faintly hoppy grains aroma. Clear, amber red body with a medium-lasting foamy white head. Grainy flavour. Medium body is smooth. Relatively bland compared to its brothers on the table but is repeatable and hides the alcohol well.

Bottle: Aroma of caramel with light hops. Pours a transparent amber with a small white head. Fruit and buttery caramel up front with a well balanced a very tastey grapefruit hop finish. Very good.

Bottle pours translucent caramel, small milkish cream colored head, lively carbonation, with decent lacing.   Malts, biscuit, cookie dough, and floral esters on the nose.   Malty, chewy, caramel, cookie dough, slightly sweet, very smooth, oh yeah this is damn tasty!   WOW, by far the best Vienna I have had.   No real bitterness, just a nice malty flavor with hints of caramel.   Clean, crisp, with a nice finish.   Body and mouthfeel are very appropriate.   I would easly have this one again.   Thanks goes out to TChrome for the trade!

Appearance: Pours a clear, reddish-hued body with a foamy off-white head. Smell: A well-balanced blend of sweet-smelling caramel maltiness and a spicy, white pepper hop scent. Faint hint of grains. Taste: Smooth, sweet maltiness with a toasted caramel taste. Light graininess. A tangy jolt midway. Spicy, herbal hop flavors. Mild bitterness that lingers into the aftertaste. Finishes crisp. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Drinkability: A very lovely Vienna. I would have had another right this very minute if I had one chilled and ready. I would have been GLAD to!

Mild toasted sweet malts and butterscotch. Nice fruity hops, mild orange blossom. Dark amber clear with thin off-white lacing head. Medium body with medium carbonation. Starts mildly acidic and bitter, with toasted malt and sugary quality. A bit sweet in the finish with nutty bitterness and some salty after. Decent lager but not remarkable.

Maybe I got a funky bottle, but this is the only GL beer I’ve had so far that I wouldn’t get again. Smell is way too malty and look is very carbanted. The taste is very malty and a little plaiting, nothing that I really like.

Nice ruddy color and a light tan, fluffy head. Some toasted malt in the nose. Sweet and caramelly malt, though not overpowering. A little bitter and decent hop blend. Good balance and a smooth brew.
