Commercial Description:
Deep Amber red color, with a fragrant malt aroma. Flavorful notes of rich caramelized malt and noble hop flavors harmonize on the palate leading to a crisp clean finish. Named after one of Cleveland's most respected safety directors, who frequented the brewpub's bar during his tenure from 1935-1941 and, according to popular legend, was responsible for the bullet holes still evident today.

Bottle; poured an amber color with an off white head. Aroma of caramel and fruit juice. Nice palate; flavor of caramel, bread, fruit juice and caramel; sweet. Well done for the style, but to me this is rated to high.

9/12/2007: Great Lakes Eliot Ness is amber in color with a foamy beige head. The aroma and flavor are earthy and contain a nice caramel/toffee maltiness and just enough earthy bittereness to create a very well-balanced beer. This medium-bodied beer is smooth and very drinkable. This is a solid Vienna lager that will hopefully get more and more people interested in the the style.

12 fl. oz. bottle at the Newtown Village Tavern. Thanks for buying the rounds Tom (Tmoney99). I really appreciate it! Rating #451 for this beer...

Bottle. A rich deep orange-red color with a nice head. A dry malty crisp and clean flavor. Very nice!

Perfectly clear, brilliantly ambered hue...delicate, diaphonous lacey, foam, elegantly drifting down in size...aroma bursts out from first cracking the crown, fruity, yeasty, malty, a perfect combination...beautiful...soft, yet still a little spicy... Time to drink up! Mmmm!Nice, little hoppiness, then the mouth is washed over with caramel malt, toasty, rich, and smooth...notes of cherries and nuts on the palate...light bodied, but with a luscious, ever-tasty finish, clean and easy, but quite happy in the mouth. Oh, this is good! Ohioans, you must be slap-happy to have this around, the best amber lager to slip past my lips!

23.11.06 12oz bottle dated best before Oct06, thanks to OhioDad. I know I’ve had this an I’m surprised I’ve never rated it. Well, it’s good as I recalled. Nice pretzel-like malt profile, medium to full bodied, slightly sweet with notes of honey, plum, and graham, and a quick, herbal, earthy hop finish. Reminds of Flying Fish Oktoberfish.

Sweet malt aroma with an unusual hint of sweet potato. Copper with little head. Very light and refreshing with hints of caramel malt. The malt profile becomes more pronounced as it warms. A very nice reward after mowing grass in the Florida summer heat.

Interesting beer. Has a sweet malty taste, with a little hops balance. Overall gives a thin, sweet impression. Not one of my favorites, but a smooth drink nonetheless. So far my favorite Great Lakes varieties are the Edmund Fitzgerald Porter and the Dortmunder Gold.

[draft - 10th Annual PA Microbrewers Fest, Pennsylvania Brewing Co. - Pittsburgh, PA] Had to do a little research to find out exactly which Great Lakes Brewing beer I had. Poured a nice amber color with a thin and fizzy white head. Thick and chewy roasted aroma with a nice caramelly malt hint. Strong malt flavor with a good sweet touch of that caramel that I caught in the aroma. The sweet malts give way to a nice roasted finish with a clean aftertaste.
