Commercial Description:
Deep Amber red color, with a fragrant malt aroma. Flavorful notes of rich caramelized malt and noble hop flavors harmonize on the palate leading to a crisp clean finish. Named after one of Cleveland's most respected safety directors, who frequented the brewpub's bar during his tenure from 1935-1941 and, according to popular legend, was responsible for the bullet holes still evident today.

On tap, pours amber with a thin off white head. Both the aroma and the flavor of the beer is of malt and caramel. Easily drinkable and another solid brew from Great Lakes.

Pours a more red of an amber color with a slight beige head. Real good flavor to it, can really taste sweet caramel and it’s malty, nice hop kick and actually alcohol kick to it that give it a nice bite.

Bottle ...thanks Brooklynboy...I may have made a mistake by waiting for oktoberfest to crack this beer (dated best befrore Sept 29 ) but I wanted to stack it against some Oktoberfest Vienna/Marzen/Oktoberfest beers out this time of year....It came out flying despite the 10 day lapsed freshness date. 2 inch deep sand colored sticky cap after a hard pour. Beautiful deep copper-red hue. Nose is of toffee-caramel sweet graininess, slight wisps of spicy-mustiness. Nice substantial chewy malt delivery up front...silky mouth feel...malt sweetness is kept in tow with woody, rustic hop departure leaving a light toasty- toffee and fresh cut maple impression. Finish is moderate with the hops coming forward and leaving a musty sweet toasty taste. Damn fine rendition of the Vienna style....I wish this was available in Ontario, It would be my favorite Fall quaff.

Thanks to RagallachMC for the bottle. Clear orange/copper with almost no head. Aroma is generally light, with caramel and nutty malts. Some bitter taste comes in too. Especially at the finish. Medium body. Soft carbonation. Certainly better than average for the style.

Dark amber with thick tan head. Brown sugar and caramel aroma. Full malt taste, a touch of hops and the full flavor delivers on the promise of the great nose. Loved it.

10/10/07 bottle. All I can say about this is: BURNING MALT. That is all I can taste and all that I have to say... well and I kinda like that about this brew.

"Poured a dark orange with just a little cloudy, samll head and didn’t lace at all. Aroma was malty. Flavor was a little thin, almost watered down with the malts and breadyness in there."

Drink by April, 2005. Pours an amber-brick color. Not 100% clear but not hazy. Minimal carbonation and a small white head. Sweet malt and lightly fruitish hops on the nose. Flavor is very well balanced. Malt and hops (citrus and spice) compete for some dominance but none really gets a big leg up. Malt is ultimately what you have to discuss here. Sweet caramel and general maltyness (toasty is an after thought). Really very nice and quaffable. Not a huge lager fan but his one is on the money.
