The caramelized malt seems to add just the right amount of sweetness to the brew. The finish is so remarkably clean it immediately leaves you wanting more. A fine Cleveland product that even someone from Pittsburgh could like! BeerBelcher (943), Columbus, Ohio, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Jan 9, 2007 Great Lakes is one of a select few breweries that seem to never disappoint, and this is another quality offering from them. I was expecting very little from an amber lager (based on many disappointing amber ales I’ve had), but this beer over-delivered on appearance and taste.
It poured a vibrant copper-red color that gleamed in the glass. Head formation was great, but looked slightly soapy when it went away.
Aroma was a bit faint, but more abundant than a lot of amber ales, and is malty and bready.
Taste is of caramel malt with some sweetness at the finish, and is quite good.
Mouthfeel is extremely substantial for a lager, and feels appropriate. I found this beer to be very drinkable.

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Aug 25, 2006 brown-copper clear liquid with not much head save for a light white ring around the edge (hopefully a result of the glass and not the beer) . smells like a caramel helles, clean yeast notes and minimal hops presence but sweet and darker than a regular dortmunder or helles. nothing wrong with this beer, which is perhaps the biggest compliment someone can give a normal lager. refreshing, but i’ll take their dortmunder gold over this. shawnm213 (941), South Bend, Indiana, USA
