Commercial Description:
Deep Amber red color, with a fragrant malt aroma. Flavorful notes of rich caramelized malt and noble hop flavors harmonize on the palate leading to a crisp clean finish. Named after one of Cleveland's most respected safety directors, who frequented the brewpub's bar during his tenure from 1935-1941 and, according to popular legend, was responsible for the bullet holes still evident today.

Amber orange color, nice layer of head & lacing. Nose of rich malts; toffee & creme, a soufle of scents. The flavor has a rich reduced flavor, candy cane sweetness & underlying balance. Best Vienna Ever.

Thanks to Secret Santa for this one. Pours deep coppery with 2-finger off-white head. Aroma of muffiny malts, caramel, toffee, some vinous notes, and some hopcitrus. The flavor is caramel malty, with some hopcitrus and vinous winey notes, along with some slight nuts and fruit.

Bottle (BB 03/11/09). Head is initially small, frothy, off-white, mostly diminishing. Body is clear medium to dark amber. Aroma is moderately malty (caramel, cookie, toasted light bread), lightly to moderately hoppy (flowers, apricot), with notes of peach and honey. Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, velvety texture, lively carbonation. Uncomfortably sweet, but otherwise very nice. Lovely to sniff, but kind of difficult to drink much of it.

Bottled. Just a notch below the porter, this is very malty-sweet on the nose, spectacular-looking like the other 2 GL brews I tried, creamy, caramel and oaky on the tongue. Can’t wait until this brewery is more available to me.

Bottle from Archer Liquor. Pours reddish copper with a foamy off-white head. Aroma of sweet caramel. Near medium body with foamy carbonation. Flavor is caramel and odd bits like nuts and stuff. Flavors aren’t weak. It’s not very bitter, and that’s how it finishes. Ok amber. Maybe better than ok, but more something would be better yet. Finishes more sweet than bitter, but it is rather smooth. If less than bitter is your thing, you will love this.

Got a bottle from civforprez. Pours a dark amber with very little head. The light aroma made me think of cheddar cheese. This has a thin body with a flour-y mouthfeel. The taste is slightly bitter with a cheesy finish. This is more interesting than most ambers.

Bready, toasty malts and some light vegetal tones in the aroma. Deep copper-amber with low white head that recedes to partial cover and ring. Leafy hops, bready malts and fairly assertive and lasting bitterness. Light body with moderate to strong, pinpoint prickly carbonation. Bottle (BB9/30/05) sampled with Olivier_MTL and Rastacouere.
