Commercial Description:
Deep Amber red color, with a fragrant malt aroma. Flavorful notes of rich caramelized malt and noble hop flavors harmonize on the palate leading to a crisp clean finish. Named after one of Cleveland's most respected safety directors, who frequented the brewpub's bar during his tenure from 1935-1941 and, according to popular legend, was responsible for the bullet holes still evident today.

Sampled at Great Lakes. This one got sort of lost in the bunch at the great lakes samplefest. Got to see the bullet holes on the tour by the by... anyway, the beer pours a nice dark amber. Spicy raisin hops and dark fruit on the palate. Moderately thorough roasted malts and some lighter dry malts thrown in. A smooth brew that I will need to redrink.

It made me blink a lot. Not bad, not great. An above average beer but not one I truly recommend. The commercial description is fairly accurate (not as aromatic as they claim).

Great Lakes Eliot Ness is a very clear, very sparkling amber beer with a very dense, creamy, off-white head that shows outstanding retention and lacing. It has a very fresh, malty aroma with maybe a bit of citrus. It has a medium-light body with a dry finish. It’s a mellow flavor that’s a touch sweet, with a slightly fruity bitterness.

Pours brown in color with ruby brown highlights around the edges. Nice frothy inch of head forms on the pour. Smell is all malt and some sweetness. Very metallic/off flavor in the taste. Gets a bit cloying as well. First beer I’ve had from Great Lakes that has been subpar.

Not my favorite style but again well done. The sweetness is not overwhelming

Deep amber with a malty, caramel aroma with a definite sweetness. Hops present at end; very dry. Slightly stale sample, doesn't measure up to the other beers I've had from Great Lakes. Lots of carbonation.

Pours an amber color with very little head. Aroma is malty with a hint of caramel. Up front it tastes malty, then gets a little bitter, and finishes off slightly nutty.

Bottle. Nice deep clear amber on the pour. Very nice head. Scents of fruit and malt. Some bitterness on the palate, but also peach and apples and some sweetness. Very smooth and balanced. Thanks Beervana.
