Smell: A well-balanced blend of sweet-smelling caramel maltiness and a spicy, white pepper hop scent. Faint hint of grains.
Taste: Smooth, sweet maltiness with a toasted caramel taste. Light graininess. A tangy jolt midway. Spicy, herbal hop flavors. Mild bitterness that lingers into the aftertaste. Finishes crisp.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.
Drinkability: A very lovely Vienna. I would have had another right this very minute if I had one chilled and ready. I would have been GLAD to! OldRaspy (292), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 28, 2006 Pour was a dark amber with a reddish tint and a off-white head. Aroma was caramel malt with a touch of hops in the background. The flavor is wonderful. The sweet caramel malts make this a medium bodied beer. The initial sweet flavor is followed by just enough bitter bite to let you know the hops are there. Leaves you craving more. foutzdj (7), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA does not count | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Mar 14, 2006 deep amber color, strong aroma, sweet and smokey. The palate is awesome. Thick in the mouth, a great palate for a lager. Great taste, not too strong aftertaste. I was really impressed with this one cking (1023), North Canton, Ohio, USA

This lager pours a rich amber color and is topped with a thick creamy tan head. Mild carbonation and minimal lacing, this beer simply looks smooth. The aroma primarily consists of sweet malts, I am not able to catch the faint hop nose that is promised on the bottle. The flavor is outstanding for this style. The sweet malts are dominant, the hops although minimal do make themselves present in the taste. Maybe Mr. Ness just needed to warm up a bit. Thick creamy mouthfeel with a smooth finish. Has a sweet malt flavor with balanced with hops. Great example of an underrepresented lager style. BOLTZ7555 (1096), Phoenix, Arizona, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 29, 2008 Bottle acquired via trade with polomagnifico...THANKS RYAN!!! This is a great beer. Of late, I’ve noticed that many "amber" beers feel like they have to kick in an overwhelming amount of hops. With Lagunitas Lucky 13, I thought it worked. With Green Flash’s Hop Head Red, I didn’t. This one is a throw back to the traditional amber we all used to know and love. Red bordering burnt orange in color. Crystal clear, with impressive carbonation and an ivory head that leaves significant lacing inside of the glass. Aroma is toffee, caramel, and a hint of roasted nuts. Flavor is mostly malt, with just enough hops to balance it out. Highly drinkable...clean and refreshing. Wish this was available in AZ!!! dornan23 (12), New York, USA

Pours a nice amber color with small head and decent lacing. Smell of hops and sweet malt are present. Mouth feel is quite heavy for a lager. Spicy and crisp hop finish with a bit of sweetness.
