Commercial Description:
Deep Amber red color, with a fragrant malt aroma. Flavorful notes of rich caramelized malt and noble hop flavors harmonize on the palate leading to a crisp clean finish. Named after one of Cleveland's most respected safety directors, who frequented the brewpub's bar during his tenure from 1935-1941 and, according to popular legend, was responsible for the bullet holes still evident today.

Dec. 2005 - Beer poured amber color (really red) with nice little head and lacing. Aroma was sweet malt as was the flavor. Flavor really improved as it warmed. Sweetness and bitter hop finish were nicely balanced. Nice.

(02.06.06) 12 oz brown bottle purchased from DiCarlo’s, Mundelein, IL. ABV 6.2%. Bottle states to enjoy before 3/21/06. Clear amber ale having a small white head. No discernable carbonation. Caramel/sweet malt aromas. Medium bodied that starts with light malt sweetness and fruity/caramel flavors. Finishes dry with light hop bitterness. Well-balanced. A very enjoyable amber ale.

12oz bottle. Pours deep amber with a nice creamy head. Perfectly balanced malts and hops with subtle caramel sweetness make this an extremely drinkable brew. A real winner.

A tasty looking clear amber with a big foamy white head, vanishing. Sweet caramel doppelbock smell with a hint of floral to peppery hops. A bit of toast and oddly, cinnamon? Full on the palate. Substantial with low carbonation. Still not too thick of the style. full rich sweet malt. Caramel, a bit of toast. Floral to peppery hops with a hint of alcohol popping in. this sems more doppelbock than vienna, but very nice. A bit chewy. Some diacetyl. Tannic toast, alcoholic bit in the finish.

Pours a darker, but clear, reddish amber with a medium frothy/creamy off-white head, pretty nice pour for a vienna. Sweet bready / toasty malt aroma. Yum...great malt beer... ever so slightly toasty, buttery, and a bit of caramel. The hops are in perfect light balance as a compliment to the malt. Some breadiness...almost like rye. Very soft and smooth palate. This is an excellent Vienna. FANTASTIC!

Pours clear, amber red. Aroma of soft, toasty caramel malts. Lagered touches of overripe red fruits and pears, with a drying waft of noble grassiness. White pepper. Toffee. Pristinely clean. Flavor of deep, toasty grains, slightly buttery, soaked in this calm, soothing fruit tone of blackberry and apple. Glowing malt characters arrange themselves with artful care and precision. Almost contemplative in its ease and simplicity. Like fresh baked wheat bread, buttered warmly and lightly spiced, and taken with a side of unsweetened cranberries. Medium body is generous and expansive in the mouth. Finishes very cleanly, with the lightest kick of noble hops drawing out. A smart, comfortable, pitch-perfect vienna. Thanks Bill!

Deep amber color on top of a thin yet fizzy off white head. Sweet malts, caramel, and yeasty dough domintate. Some hints of fresh citrus and piney hops, especially on the finish. Light to medium in body with a well balanced sweetness to it. Finishes slightly dry and hoppy.

Never seen this until I picked it up on an overnight Ohio stop driving x-country. Great deep lager character with enough hops to hold it up, super drinkable finish. Most excellent for the style - and refreshing enough to drop a few easily after driving 12 hours.
