Commercial Description:
Deep Amber red color, with a fragrant malt aroma. Flavorful notes of rich caramelized malt and noble hop flavors harmonize on the palate leading to a crisp clean finish. Named after one of Cleveland's most respected safety directors, who frequented the brewpub's bar during his tenure from 1935-1941 and, according to popular legend, was responsible for the bullet holes still evident today.

Hey, I hadn’t had a nice malty lager in awhile, so this one gets very high ratings from me... what doesn’t though really. Great aroma, malty sweet fruit flavor with a hint of nut and a smokey quality that is quite nice... great finish and a lingering satisfaction that comes from knowing that good lagers are indeed still being made! they are being made by great lakes for gods sake! god bless those clevelanders at times

Dark Amber color, medium head. Malty aroma. A full-bodied Vienna Lager. Big malty flavors, caramel and slightly nutty. Nice hop bite. Well balanced. Great tasting beer. Smooth taste. Finish is clean and slightly dry. Aftertaste is slightly sweet. Thanks to jcalabre for the beer.

A very tasty lager. Nice deep amber color as far as I could tell in the dark restaurant I tried it in. Fresh malty nose. Just a touch of hops but enough to balance the malt. Some vinous notes along with a bit of caramel and toffee complimented perfectly by a slick, buttery mouthfeel.

toasty, caramel, sweet and sour all malt goodness. Absolutley delicious lager..superbly made. I like the hop tinges and slightly more crisp nature of Riverwest Stein, but not by a lot. Wonderful.

Pours a dark amber. Aroma of hops, vanilla, and caramel. Tastes like that as well. One of my favorites from Great Lakes, along with the Fitzgerald.

This was in a great lakes variety pack, and I went into it thinking that I would "like" the beer, but not love it. I was wrong. This is a GREAT lager. I was surprised to see that this thing that came with variety pack was the top rated Vienna... Pours a nice amber, with a decent head that more or less lasts for the whole beer. Tremendous malts, clean taste, and noble hops on the back end. As one who normally finds lagers to be too "green" this one is as balanced as the day is long. Malts lend a full mouthfeel to this one. I will get this one again.

pours deep brownish amber with slight head. smells of caramel and starts off with hearty flavors like a stout, but finishes cleanly and crispy like a lager. a delicious mix of flavors

Copper color, when poured properly it has very little head. Noteable hop and grain aroma. Both bitter and sweet at the same time, wholly unlike ligher lagers or black lager- much richer. Tasting notes: Nuts, yeast, grain and a hint of brown spice; taste lingers well after the beer is gone.
