I regular drink the Eliot Ness and Dortmunder Gold every time I visit Cleveland, but have yet to try either (or any other Great Lakes) brew straight from the bottle although they appear to be readily available citywide. Sadly, these brews are near impossible to find west of the Rockies.
Pours deep red with a real beefy head. Nice blend of hops and malt providing both an enjoyable smell and even better taste. Enjoyable all the way round.

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 1, 2003 (bottled). Deep, bright copper hue with a soft malty nose & a faint floral hop presence. Medium-bodied feel leads off with chewy toasted malt sweetness and ends with spicy bitterness and a faintly sour plum or fig suggestion that doesn't seem out of character. Lingering bitterness stays spicy. Great! jeffc666 (1895), Fairfax, Virginia, USA

The aroma is pure malty vienna lager. Lightly nutty, notes of butter and hops. Subtle but nice aroma. The flavor is briliant. Nutty sweet bitterness that is simply divine. Extremely drinkable. Medium body lightly dry finsih. One of the best viennas out there. Thanks Dan, though you still owe me. ;) cherr (162), Rochester, New York, USA

The flavor does not disappoint. It is another well balanced great lakes beer. It tastes like a dark, stronger dortmunder gold. JoeMcPhee (5030), Jackson Heights, New York, USA

Sweet toast and caramel, Munich malt, very clean, but rich malt character. Flavour is toasty with a hint of brown sugar. Noble hop aroma and flavour throughout. Great balance and flavour. Creamy body. LIngering breadiness with herbal noble hops. Refreshing, complex, clean and very well made. Their lagers are first-rate. donvitozou (141), memphis, Tennessee, USA

Noteable hop and grain aroma. Both bitter and sweet at the same time, wholly unlike ligher lagers or black lager- much richer. Tasting notes: Nuts, yeast, grain and a hint of brown spice; taste lingers well after the beer is gone.
