Gregis (884), Overland Park, Kansas, USA May 14, 2008 Bottle courtesy of mreusch. Best by 03/22/08. Pours a clear, dark copper with a finger of creamy, beige head. The nose is a fairly straightforward blend of bready malt and lightly spicy/earthy hops. Medium-bodied and slick with creamy carbonation and a toasty, bitter finish. Toasted caramel malt with a solid noble-hopped backing; nicely balanced. Even past its "best by" date, this beer is well deserving of its status as the highest rated Vienna on this site. The next time I get the opportunity to buy more of this, I wont hesitate to do so. Thanks again for this bottle, Matt!
sleestak (60), Williamston, Michigan, USA Aug 20, 2008 12 oz. bottle. Pours amber with a medium sized frothy cream head. Aroma is caramel, malt, biscuit, and overall very inviting. Taste follows with rich malt sweetness and a surprising hop bite in the finish to keep it from being too cloying. Incredibly drinkable. foundmd (25), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Aug 20, 2008 12oz bottle. Pours deep amber with a nice creamy head. Perfectly balanced malts and hops with subtle caramel sweetness make this an extremely drinkable brew. A real winner. PolakPorter (50), , Illinois, USA Aug 15, 2008 WARNING! May have had a bad sample, based on others’ ratings. The aroma was malt-dominated with slight hop overtones. Taste is lacking hops completely and malt tastes funny. Not a good funny either. Cloying sour flavor with minimal sweetness. Strange from such a malty brew. Disappointing. There are much better ambers out there. AskForJenny (429), Ontario, New York, USA Aug 12, 2008 12oz - Nice amber pour under dark tan head, substantial froth of small bubbles. Honey on nose. Light wood in the front, offsetting a bitter, flat aftertaste. This tastes like a bad bottle. Looking at nearby recent ratings I’m wondering if they’ve had a bad batch. beer_chugger (31), Colorado, USA Aug 9, 2008 On tap at brewery. Pours a lovely carmel color. The head is cream colored and is wonderfully thick and full. It remains throughout and laces the glass nicely. The aroma is malty and spicy. The flavor is noticably hoppy with some light spice and caramel notes mixed in. A terrific beer. Great Lakes does well.
