Bottle. Translucent straw/orange-brown body, puffy buff head. The spicy, sweet nose with clove, bubblegum, and light banana esters reminds me of circus peanuts or candy corn. The body, too, reminds me of these candies, with bubblegum, clove, and hints of banana in addition to caramel and vinous alcohol notes. The complexity rivals Belgian ales of similar ABV. This is an excellent wheat beer, a fine addition to Great Lakes’ bottled lineup.

12 oz bottle from Archer Liquors. Cloudy and brown with a decent size beige head. Aroma is very sweet with some caramel, banana, spices and sweet, yet powerful bready malts. Taste is a full-bodied mix of bready-wheat malts, sweet bananas, dried cherries. Smooth finish. Impressive.

reddish brown with mild white head with low carbonation. nose mostly of banana yeasty notes. some hop bitterness with clove esters being dominant. some alcohol and maybe oxidation come through next and some unfermented sugars. a solid, bet unspectacular brew, mildly disappointed

On tap at the Great Lakes dinner at the Bethel Rd Winking Lizard on 6/11/09. Opaque amber pour with a big white head. Aroma is a bushel of bananas (can bananas be measured in bushels?) with caramel and sweet malts and some spice. Caramel flavor up front with a hint of whiskey, lots of banana and just a smidge of hop dryness. Sweet finish with clove and some other spices. Not my favorite style, but I can tell it’s well-made.

Bottle thanks to 17floor. Dark ruby copper color with small to medium, creamy beige head. Aroma is wheat and yeast with banana, dryer alc and some caramel. Flavor is sweet plum nd other dark fruit, grain, banana, vanilla, alc, spices, crisp finish. Medium body and creamy with pretty active carbontion. I feel like a it’s a pretty pungent version of the style but very tasty.

12oz bottle. Pours a deep amber red with a thin head of tight creamy bubbles. Aroma is rich sweet and spice. The flavors are really well blended and complex. Sweetness that borders on fruitiness and cloves and banana that add complexity and interest. Really a drinkable and interesting beer. Fantastic for the style.

Great Lakes Glockenspiel is a dim, hazy, reddish brown ale with a yellowish off-white head that leaves nice lacing. It has a sweet, spicy, estry aroma with notes of banana, clove, raisin, fig, apple, coriander and black pepper. It’s full bodied and syrupy with a sticky finish. It seems a touch scratchy. It’s quite sweet with all of the aroma elements present in the flavor. It’s a little resiny, leathery and phenolic, with an alcoholic aftertaste. It’s pretty good, but I couldn’t see reaching for a second one.
