Aroma is very medicinal with lots of alcohol, malt, caramel, and brown sugar. Taste is very malty with lots of caramel and a nice brown sugar taste. Underneath the heavy malt taste, there is lots of spice, banana, and yeast. Has a very bready overall taste. At first, the alcohol is very harsh and it takes a few sips to get past it. Once the beer warms, it becomes a very pleasant drinking experience. It never quite shakes the medicinal taste though. Worth drinking. Bigmmartin (370), Dayton, Ohio, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 10, 2009 Bottle. Pretty good Weizen Bock, especially considering its a US brew. I thought it looked great, with a orange-red color and large frothy white head. Aroma gives off the strong smell of yeast, bread, some banana, and malts. Flavor is similar, with a malty wheat taste followed by some banana and bread dough. Too bad I just tried Aventinus for the first time a few days ago. This one doesn’t quite compare, but seems true to be true to style. Brigadier (1240), Chagrin Falls, Ohio, USA

A recent release from Great Lakes this one I sought out hoping it would erase memories of the disaster that was Grassroots. Not only does it do that it is one of the best weizenbocks I have tried. This is a style I need to seek out more often.
Aroma / Appearance - The opaque mahogany body and off white head sticks to the sides of the glass. Caramel, black cherry, sourdough pretzels, and semi-sweet chocolate chips mix into a malty blend.
Flavor / Palate - Fluid and light bodied it sits easily on the tongue and throat. Chocolate chip bread, cherry hard candy, and fruity notes make this is enjoyable to drink. Despite being 8% it goes down easily. A great value at around $10 this one will hopefully make it to your area soon. zach8270 (2098), Henrietta, New York, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 9, 2009 (bottle - 12 oz) Hazy golden pour with a fluffy white head. Aroma is sweet and spicy with nice hints of wheat, clove, yeast, and some banana. Flavor is very sweet but rather mild at the start. Good spice and sweet notes with hints of the cloves, some nutmeg, caramel, yeast, and a light nutty finish. Smooth and very refreshing. Can’t taste the alcohol at all. blutt59 (2110), Dallas, Texas, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 8, 2009 Pours a hazy amber orange color with a nice tan head that leaves good lacing. Aroma of banana and wheat with hops poking through, maybe some honey as well. Taste is the same banana and wheat, other sweet malts with some hops. This beer seems to ooze sweet medium bodied malts with a wonderful balance of spices to compliment. Some carbonation but mostly smooth. None of the usual finishing tinge I have found in a lot of Great Lakes beers. Crisp finish. Rivals Edmund Fitzgerald for my second favorite GL brew. jimmack34 (567), Lancaster, Ohio, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 8, 2009 12 oz bottle. Pours hazy reddish brown with a decent off white head. Smells of pale malts, wheat, and spices. Tastes wheaty, malty, spicy, and sweet. Flavors of some banana, clove, and ginger are prominant, while milder flavors yeast, caramel, dark fruit, and syrup follow up. Nice lasting aftertaste and body. Guerde (703), Welcome, Minnesota, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 7, 2009 (bottle from OSLO) Pours nothing like what’s pictured on the left, and instead of a hazy yellow, it’s actually a dark reddish amber with a thin off-white head. Aroma is potent and possesses all aspects of a weizenbock, with clove, tart wheat, banana, and even a hint of spearmint as well. The taste starts out really rich with caramel, toffee, and banana, but this quickly switches to a bone dry finish of tart wheat, spice, and yeast. When cold the finish is somewhat tinny, and is slightly reminiscent of canned salmon, but thankfully this tones down as it warms. Mouthfeel is medium with lively carbonation. Not a bad weizenbock. Thanks Al!
