Great Lakes Glockenspiel Weizenbock

Deep copper pour with ruby highlights and a small off-white head. Some nice plum and fig notes punctuated by spicy, peppery Noble hops with hints of banana and clove. There’s also a bit of vegetalness there too. There’s a somewhat irony vegetal quality throughout that detracts from the soft dark fruit flavors. The flavor also has notes of ripe banana, spicy hops, pepper and clove. The body is creamy but a little thin for a weizenbock and heavily carbonated. Pretty decent stuff but by no means is this on par with Aventinus.

Bottle. Clear dark pumpkin colored pour, minimal carbonation and a nice aroma of spicy/sweet banana. Flavor was thick and sweet banana, pepper and plenty of mellow fruit on the finish. Alcohol was very well hidden for being 8%. Great lakes hits another homer on this one.

Copper color with a moderate, fairly fizzy vanilla folder colored head. Swells like a heavy weiss, with bananas, sweet wheat, malt-o-meal, bubble gum; just a rather heavy weiss scent. In some ways right and in a few others a bit too sweet. Fairly heavy, and nearly too "dead" a feel. I still like some zip in my weizenbock. Fruity and malty start, with marzipan and bananas. Middle has a bit of vanilla. A nice progression on tastes. A bit of lightly roasted nuts in the finish. I am reminded of beernuts.

Bottle. That picture can’t be this beer ... mine is reddish orange with a monster foam top. Classic weizenbock character all the way ... stark banana-clove aroma, nice esthery flavor, sweet and yeasty. Yummy yummy in my tummy. (#3626, 8/2/2009)

I’ll preface this with my general disfavor for wheat beers. This beer pours copper, with some sediment trailing. Virtually no head. Astringent wheat aroma, with coriander and cloves coming out. Sweet and wheaty. The alcohol covers some of the wheat bite.

12oz - Lovely toffee colored liquid under tan head. Sweet, malty nose. A little too sweet on first sip, but that fades. Enough of the Bock type wood notes to be true to the style, but far from overpowering. I liked it.

Tastes like banana bread - butter, banana, brown sugar, sweet spice - but the beer itself isn’t too sweet. Smells like baked goods at first, then more like beer. Thickish, but not fizzy. Pretty - especially at first with tight head (it goes away).

Pours a nice reddish copper color with a finger high tan head that quickly settles into more beer. The head clings to the glass like...like...well, it clings well. Smells like faint bananas, not much else. Great flavor of bananas and clove...how did I know.Some spice from the clove, almost syrupy in the mouth, and it seems to stick to the throat and hold on for dear life. THAT....I could do without. Light alcohol burn in the finish, decent beer.
