Great Lakes Holy Moses White Ale

Picked up a single 12-oz bottle from Bob’s McFarland Liquors in McFarland, WI. Pours a clear pale golden brew with an average sized white head that dissolves to a thin bubbly film. Good lacing. Aroma of wheat and a touch of yeast, with hints of coriander and some citrus. Taste is yeasty wheat, medium body citrus peel, and pepper. Finish is dry and smooth.

A golden yellow pour with lily white head and lacing. An aroma of wet paper and corn. If dry is a smell this beer has it. A very sweet malty beginning rush of flavor that changes over to a bit of almost lemon/apple flavor. The bitter finish is a bit of a surprise. The palate is thick and full with the carbonation being just a tad over the top for me. Overall a pretty good beer.

Bottle courtesy of Jdoolin: Poured a whitish/yellow color ale with a nice pure white foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of coriander and wheat is dominant and refreshing. Taste consists of a good malt presence with a nice dose of wheat, coriander and some orange peel. Refreshing with a full body for the style. Well done and stays within the style.

Rated 1/28/06: This is a very good witbier. Pours a cloudy yellow/orange color with a thick head that dwindles down. Powerful carbonation and some really great lacing as well. In the glass this beer almost looks like honey. The aroma is thick with coriander and citrus fruits, I also picked up some bitterness from the aroma. I let the head die down before I took my first sip. This beer feels crisp and pleasant. Overall good citrus flavors complimented by spices. The first one I had on its own, and my second one had a slice of fresh lemon. Both ways were good but the lemon really added to the overall flavor. I recommend trying a few of these, make sure they are cold and you will enjoy one seriously refreshing witbier.

Pours to a light golden color with white head that lingered well and left okay lacing. Okay aroma of spices...mostly corriander, with a hint of clove, though the aroma was definitely underwhelming. Flavor was slightly spicy, slightly doughy, but not strong enough to write home about. Althoguh it had a somewhat tinlgy mouthfeel, the ofinish seemd a little stale cardboard-like, and not real long.

sample at Chicago Green Fest. nice golden with a head the hung around. citrus fro sure, could have had more body. Nothing special about this witbier.

Bottle from OhioDad. Thanks Scott! Shared at the beerinator gathering. Don’t have too many notes from this one. But I have written down the word ’blah’ which often means I didnt care for said beer too much. This one was heavily spiced with citrus and typical heavy yeast notes. Blah. I think I’ve just grown out of this style.

Looks and smells fine. The head and the beer are extremely dry, a bit of a surprise. First thing I noticed after that was the orange peel, which is also quite nice. A pleasant white ale that isn’t too wheaty.
