xnoxhatex (753), Chicago, Illinois, USA May 7, 2008 Sample at West Lakeview Liquors, Chicago, Great Lakes Tasting. Hazy yellow/golden color with medium white, foamy head. Aroma is all citrus and spice with sweet malt. Flavor is very much along the same lines with some grain and banana as well. Light to medium bodied with a okay carbonated fizz. Pretty in-style but at the same time still lacking something that I can’t quite put my finger on.
sja14 (40), Ohio, USA Jul 17, 2008 pours hazy yellow but not as cloudy as other wits. Swee, spicy, and citrusy. Not the best offering from GLBC and not my favorite witbier. It almost seems too heavy for a wit. pint_size (989), Austin, Texas, USA Jul 17, 2008 7-9-08 bottle thanks to crizay!!
Cloudy orangish yellow pour with an average fluffy white head. Smell is pungent funk and hefty yeast. A bit too pungent for me and not enough sweetness or fruitiness in there to balance. Flavor is a touch sweet and almost citrisy. It is nice and actually surprising. Thirst quenching and enjoyable. Bubbly palate that somehow works here. Smell is a touch feet-like but flavor is nice and refreshing and gulpable. FlssmrBrewAlum (164), South Chicago Suburbs, Illinois, USA Jul 16, 2008 Poured on tap at The Galway Tribes (Frankfort, IL). Pours a light orangish hue with a decent white head that manages to stick around. Smell is typical of a wit, but more enjoyable than many of the popular ones of the market. Citrus, wheaty sweetness, spices, and a slight touch of coriander (But not very powerful at all). Initial is much the same, medium bodied and respectable in taste but still refreshing and light on the stomach and palate. Finishes smooth without any ill effects but also without a lot of memorable moments. Good, not the best, but a Wit I’d return to any day. lb4lb (1267), Austin, Texas, USA Jul 11, 2008 Bottle from Crizay in trade. Thanks man!
Pours a nice light orange color and is slightly hazy with a whitish head. Smell is freah wheatiness, & light citrusy lemon and orange. Very refreshing with soft wheat flavor and fruit as well. Smooth body, crisp carbonation with a hint of bitterness in the finish as well. Just a solid, solid wheaty, and citrusy witbier that was super refreshing and easy drinking. Probably my favorite witbier. hacim (3), , Oklahoma, USA does not count Jul 7, 2008 Tasty pale beer with a medium body and a cloudy complexion. Smells like fresh oranges mixed with spice. The spice taste is the first thing I noticed when drinking, although it’s balanced with enough sweetness that it’s not difficult to drink. Overall a great spring/summer ale, though far from Great Lakes’ best.
