Aromas of banana and very light hops. Flavor is sweet, malts, banana, some bitter hops. I appreciate the hoppy bitter finish. Eh, not too bad. emerson430 (87), Lakewood, Ohio, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Aug 6, 2008 About the same color as the Dortmunder Gold and with a similar white head with clean, pronounced lacing. Very malty and sweet, but balanced by a hoppiness that is a bit more muted than I would prefer, but probably appropriate for the style. Sammy (4050), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Purchased at the new Village Mart. Short lasting head, light colour. Medium plus mouthfeel. Drying aftertaste. VEry drinkable. kassner (468), Wexford, Pennsylvania, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 4, 2008 This beer pours a clear amber-gold color with a medium and fluffy off-white head that recedes slowly. Small patches of lacing on the glass. Lots of bread and malt in the nose, along with a touch of hops. Medium-bodied with a strong malt character. Flavors of grassy hops, grain and fruit are evident as well. The finish is malty and sweet with a lingering bready aftertaste. ABV is not very noticeable. Overall this is an interesting experiment but I’d rather stick with the "regular" Dortmunder when it comes down to it. jmikolich (405), Athens, Ohio, USA
| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 2/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Aug 3, 2008 12oz bottle, umm?? sorry GLBC but this one looked super delicious, i was watering looking at this.. then i tasted it and thought i was drinking OE.. taste was super malty and chemically with a malt liquor finish... dunno what happened with this but wasnt my cup of tea. redlem (1155), Illinois, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Aug 2, 2008 Pours a medium oak color with small head and low carbonation. Aroma is almost bock like, very sweet biscuits. Taste is skewed toward the sweet malts, slightly cloying, with the hop and alcohol mixing at the end to become indistinguishable and unremarkably hot. The spice that comes out at the finish is just unpleasant.
This is more bock like than any imperial lager. I had always considered GL Gold an extreme example of the dortmunder style to begin with but this lacks the balance and taste of the original. Sad as this brewery produces some of my favorite beers.
