| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Nov 6, 2009 Presentation: It was poured from a brown 12oz bottle into a snifter glass. The bottle has a best by date of 11-09-09 and it was sampled on 10-24-2009.
Appearance: It had a deep copper amber body with some reddish highlights and good clarity. The head is tall and fluffy, light beige in color and has nice retention. On the glass it makes cool sticky lacing.
Smell: There is a full nose of fresh bready malt, light roasted notes, hints of toffee and mixed nuts. The aroma is sweet and yet balanced by solid notes of citrus like hops.
Taste/Palate: The flavor has sweet caramel, bready and nutty maltiness with well balanced citrus/pine hops. The 8% abv is mild and adds some more subtle warmth and character. The finish is slow with some pleasant hop bitterness. It has a solid medium to full body with mellow carbonation and a smooth texture.
Notes: This was a very enjoyable beer.

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 5, 2009 Pours a nice copper color with a thin, dense, off-white head. Aroma has a very lively Marris Otter malt presence, a great hoppy nose - earthy, light pine with lots of heavy overall bitterness. Flavor has a heavy Marris Otter malt toasted flavor, a very heavy bitter hops bite, earthy hops with a mild chocolate malt note and some heavy toasted finishing malt notes. Modest density and a smooth texture for a beer this bitter. Overall a fantastic brew and one well worth the money. dmtroyer (410), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 3, 2009 Draft at D’s. Poured a deep amber with a fleeting head. I remember mostly a potpourri nose with a relatively complex body of spices, flowers and grass. Palate was nice, a bit on the soft side for my taste. drowland (1410), Tallahassee, Florida, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Nov 8, 2009 Dusty old bottle thieved from a dug up coffin (courtesy LtDan) and busted open over the cold gray tombstone into the skeleton’s own cracked skull.
Staring in through the skull’s eyes, I can see a witch’s brew that gurgles to a floating 2-zombie-finger head. The brew itself slops around lazily like rotted brains with the same color of the blood that was sucked from the lifeless body years ago, only clear like the dead of a cool night under a full moon.
The putrid aroma wafting up from the skull is of freshly turned earth mixed with chewed up milk chocoate and a shot of booze from a castle in the old country. A glimpse of flavor strolls across the tongue as the beer slops down throat and shirt while poured across the jagged teeth of the makeshift chalice. It’s as if the old jaw was possesed and chewed up malt and choclate and drooled it happily back into my mouth. All of this with a gruesome dose of earthy hops that must have been harvested by the Grim Reaper from a vine growing on Frankenstein’s dismantled grave.
The beer across my palate is the bittersweet pleasure in the pain of being stared down by Dracula himself.
All in all, a terrifying beer. StinkBall (55), Asheville, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Nov 7, 2009 12 oz. bottle from Ludlow Wines. Pours a slightly cloudy ruby red color with a small eggshell head that leaves only a thin rim around the sides and a few bubbles on top. Nice aroma of raisin, black cherry, sweet roasted malts, caramel, toffee, nuts, and citrus hops. The flavor is just a notch below the aroma, with notes of caramel, sweet roasted malts, pine hops, alcohol, dark and dried fruits, spices, and mixed nuts. Light-medium bodied, sweet early and bitter late. Lingering alcohol aftertaste. williamherbert (466), Syracuse, New York, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 7, 2009 Seriously earthy, bitterish Euro malt aroma. Sharp and Bavarian. Dark with a little toffee sweetness on the back end. Has the aroma of potting soil.
Appears dark Triaminic red-orange. Glassy and clear. Very good head retention.
Flavor is supremely bitter malt: earthy, dark roasted, hints of caramel and toffee. Spicy hop of pine and oak. VERY resiny. A ton of flavor, just no hint of a sweet respite. Malt remains a dark amber.
Feels thick and creamy, but gritty at the swallow. A very heavy, supremely woody strong ale. Lot of slowly sippable heft.
