brentfeesh (1036), Gadsden, Alabama, USA Dec 31, 2008 16oz pint at the brewery. Black with a thin head. Nice burnt and roasted malt aroma with a touch of baker’s chocolate. Full roasted grain flavor with a touch of chocolate. Very drinkable. Creamy mouth feel that is on the watery side but all in all adds to the experience. Quite nice. Tmoney99 (4694), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Dec 21, 2008 Draft at brewpub. Poured a black color with a medium off-white creamy head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Medium toasted chocolate malt aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture. Medium roasted bittersweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of average duration. Solid drinkable brew. fiver29 (708), Cleveland, Ohio, USA May 24, 2008 Growler pours pitch black with a tan head. Has a nice roasty smell with some raosty malts mixed in. Has a light mouthfeel that I wish was a little heavier. The flavors that this beer has is what makes it. It is very chocolatey upfront with a smooth roasted malt flavor on the back side. It has some sweetness mixed in. Overall this is a solid beer that would be a regular in my fridge if they offered it in bottles. This is a great beer. joshwilfong (776), Cleveland, Ohio, USA May 23, 2008 pitch black with tan head, flavor is roasty toasty with choc and roasted malt with some sweet oatmeal aspect. very solid and very nice dkoonce (883), People’s Republic of Athens, Ohio, USA Apr 18, 2007 On tap at the brew pub. Black, with a medium head that is smooth a creamy. Slightly burnt malt aroma, with some hops. Mostly burnt malt flavor. A bit sweet, with a light body. Dogbrick (2855), Columbus, Ohio, USA Sep 19, 2006 On draught at the brewpub. GLBC has a couple great Stouts, namely Blackout (esecially the Barrel-Aged) and Wolfhound. Being a Stout-lover and knowing their track record, I was looking forward to their take on the Sweet Stout. While not disappointed, the beer does fall just a bit short. The beer pours black as pitch with a thick and foamy light tan head and sticky lacing. Aroma of roasted coffee and chocolate. Creamy with a medium body and roasted character. Flavors of coffee, malt and chocolate are tasty but don’t resonate long enough. The finish is dry with a mild bitterness. Good for the style, but I know GLBC could do even better. dirkules (613), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Sep 17, 2006 As a big fan of the Sam Smiths, I felt underwhelmed with this brew. It’s only available on tap at the moment. There’s a good roast to it but a bit too much carbonation. There’s oats and coffee and a dry finish. It can be tweaked I believe and then it will be absoltely amazing. RagallachMC (631), Cleveland, Ohio, USA Sep 8, 2006 Darft at the brewpub. Aroma: Nice roasted grain aroma with a noticeable oat overtone. Hints of coffee and chocolate and roasted nuts. Appearance: Dark brown/light black with a medium tan head. Head was big and creamy with good retention. Fair lacing. Flavor: Nice stout flavor with good roastiness. Again the oats are very noticeable. Coffee, chocolate, and light caramel. A nice smokiness in there, as well. Palate: Medium-light bodied and creamy. Moderate carbonation. Finish was pretty dry with a touch of astringency. Overall: Oatmeal plays a nice role here. Good, solid stout. Perhaps a little higher mouthfeel.
