2009 Batch enjoyed on tap during the Barrel Aged Release Party at the brewery. Cloudy amber/orange in color, thin filmy head and very little lacing. Sweet sugary aroma with a good maltiness and a very heavy bourbon effect coupled by some mild fruitiness. Sweet with a boozy liquor kick, but it’s smooth and drinks wonderfully as long as you take your time. Unique taste with a big sugary malt flavor followed by peaches and pineapple. Heavy on the bourbon with a complimentary woody taste, this is what ties it together and makes it so wonderful.

On tap at Great Lakes Brewing Company. I lost my notes so this rating is from memory. Ruddy orange-red body, thin buff head. Nose and body of funky, fermented fruits, buttery, musty oak and bourbon. Sweet, somewhat tart, and potent with noticeable alcohol content. Very enjoyable.

reddish brow with mild white head. strong bourbon notes to the nose. flavor is immediately all bourbon, but as the beat warms and opens, the flavor evolves incorporating some hop bitterness and flavor, but the malt is mostly overshadowed by the ever-present bourbon. a digestive, that is enjoyable, but the bourbon doesn’t complement the underlying beer, just smothers it

JW77 hooks it up yet again. Copperish pour. Aroma is full of bourbon, honey, fruit, vanilla and did I mention bourbon? Flavor is sweet and loaded with bourbon and vanilla. NICE!

On tap at Great Lakes pours hazy orange color with off white head. Aroma is apricot, orange, and with a touch of bourbon. Viscous mouthfeel. Flavor follows the nose. The base beer is balanced nicely by the vanilla and bourbon flavors from the barrel. Finishes sweet. Apparently they used buffalo trace barrels this year instead of Jim Beam. This beer did best by the use of a different barrel this year and is really good. I may have to stop by the brewery for this one again when its on tap in the coming weeks.

On tap at the brewpub. Opaque orange/copper color with a thin off-white head. Malty aroma with some apricot and character and some oaky vanilla. Flavor is oak and bourbon at first, then apricot and caramel hit the palate before a sweet finish.

Growler shared by hopdog on 10/25/08: Pours a transparent copper amber with a thin, wispy-lacing off-white head. Aroma of sweet and rich dark caramel bourbon with some toasty oak character. Body starts with rich sweet dark maltiness and good complex bourbon balance before a flavorful dark fruity finish. Nicely balanced and fairly drinkable.

Bottle. Very nice BW. Pours a nice slight chill haze amber with a thin lasting head. Aroma is brandy and oak, woody- earth, and a nice caramel smooth sweetness - tons of ripe fruits, peach and apricot and dried raisin and dates. Nice full sweet flavor- light earth and leather in the middle- toffee, molasses and brown sugar. Smooth lingering finish.
