6/02/2008: Rye of the Tiger is a substantially hoppy rye IPA. It has a really fresh, tangerine/clementine hop citrus aroma and flavor accompanied by a moderate bitterness and a dry and spicy rye finish. As far as appearance, this beer has a cloudy caramel color with a lasting, frothy and foamy beige head and thick lacing. The flavor is really hoppy and citrusy in the front with a touch of toasted/caramelized malt in the middle followed by a dry and spicy finish. Fresh valencia orange is evident in the flavor as the beers warms. The body is medium-full and quite smooth. This is a nicely hopped IPA with some obvious rye characteristics. Overall it is very well-balanced and quite delicious!
Draught (2 pints, 7.5% ABV) at GLBC in Cleveland, Ohio. Rating #3 for this beer...
mcbackus (635), Merritt Island, Florida, USA Jun 21, 2008 growler from crizay: pours a golden colour with a small white head that stays on the edge of the glass. aroma of good caramel malt and great rye aroma good citrus hops that seem very fresh. great aroma/. flavour is fantastic good dry rye character some malt and the bitter hops are citrus and earth, very good islay (402), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Jun 16, 2008 Approximately 4 oz. pour, on tap at the brewpub in Ohio City on 6-13-08. This beer should be classified as a "Specialty Grain" or "American Strong Ale." Pours a hazy amber to dull copper. Small amount of beige head. Very hoppy aroma. Nice, buttery, creamy smell. Soft flavors. Minty, grassy, spicy taste. Sweet malts. Like a Double IPA or Imperial Amber with a soft, spicy twist. This is my kind of beer! Easy to drink but boozy. Medium body. Reasonably lively and silky on the palate. Rye of the Tiger is a remarkably good brew. crizay (1070), Brook Park (was Tampa,FL), Ohio, USA Jun 11, 2008 Dark copper medium bone head. Aroma is fresh hoppiness. Flavor has a resiny upfront hop bite to it, which leads to the sweet rye and allows some of the hops to come through with citrus and pine. The bitterness is a little too high for this to be drinkable but if you like rye’s you’ll like this. fiver29 (303), Strongsville, Ohio, USA Jun 6, 2008 Growler pours a dark amber color with a off white head . Has a nice hoppy aroma to it. Taste is spot in with other hop ryes. Has a smoother character, though. A decent brew.
