beermatrix (1497), Twin Cities, Minnesota, USA Apr 14, 2007 Fresh growler: Big time smeared pineapple yellow color and a soft glow within. Soft, delicate topping of whitish foam dawns for a brief stay eventually slipping to an always present collar ring. Lacing is minimal in a few spots. A heavy dripping drape sits on one side and a slight glare of oily residue covers all.
Aroma is murky and malty with a broad yet dullish spice of old hops, old pear fruit, and a sweet delicate earthyness.
Taste is immaculately balanced and easy to down in a hurry. Very nice dulled, paled sweetness of old citrus and some solid fruitishness and breadyness. Kinda like old pear and mango with a slight tone of wheat germ and the said breadyness of dough. Has a superbly placed hop note at the finish with a creative spicyness that eludes to earthy touches of dull grass and herb. Twist in more left over malts and hearty breadish sweetness and you’ve got a winner in a quick tasty treat the lasts on the palate and endures that want of more.
Body isn’t as heavy as some of the bigger bodied, malt laden Maibocks out there. Its smoothness and quick to please attitude is its only real set back for the style. Other then that, this sucker is a real treat. The balance is nice, the taste is good, and with its lighter body and nicely rounded overall tone, this stuff floats right down. This growler won’t last the night. Already through three glasses... robertsreality (2462), Minnesota, USA Apr 5, 2007 Brewed to Celebrate Great Water’s 10th Anniversary.
Cloudy Orange Color with White Head. Very Subtle Sweet Malt Aroma. Very Crisp Tasting...With a Bit of Heavy Mouthfeel to it. Caramel and Bitter Toasted Notes. Clean, and Lightly Dry Aftertaste. Bit Drying on the Palate Overall. Afterthoughts of Citrus.
