Commercial Description:
This is a full bodied oat stout. Whole malted oats are used for 10% of the grain bill. Roasted barley from the United Kingdom and chocolate malt make up 10% and the rest is two row barley. The whole oats leave behind a slightly nutty flavor. The coffee and chocolate flavors come from the roast and the chocolate malts.

Black color with a medium head. Outstanding aroma of port and sherry with a bit of coffee on the end. Oh man... the port turns very sweet in the taste and is just outstanding. Choclated laced malt shines through as well. It’s a bit on the watery side, but I’m willing to overlook that. A fairly light stout that I’d drink pint after pint of. Outstanding.

Had on tap at the brewpub in downtown St. Paul. Dark black mocha, thick, creamy mocha colored head with sticky lacing. Aroma has hints of coffee and dark baker’s chocolate. Very earthy and flavorful. Good bitter background with prominent coffee and chocolate up front. Mouthfeel, thick and creamy, some good oiliness that feels just right. Cold and rainy night - wife describes this stout as "the beer equivalent of comfort food".

A respectable oatmeal stout. Black. Some smoke in the aroma; a standard oatmeal stout scent. Flavor is a little bitter, some more smoke. Very light chocolate and some coffee. More of a dry stout than a sweet stout.

Aroma of coffee, milk, and roasted malts--a classic oatmeal stout with residual sweetness. 96% opaque, dark brown. Roasted, vanilla, coffee flavors, very solid. Not too thin but oily quick in the mouth; still, smooth. Nice, bold. (handpulled cask at brewpub)

On handpump at the brewpub on 05/31/2009. Very dark black body with a medium frothy tan head. Roast, chocolate and light molassas aroma. Chocolate flavor with roast, molassas and a bit of yeastiness. Medium body with low carbonation.

Black Coloring with Tan Ring/Skin. Aroma is a Very Pure and Refined Hit of Chocolate, Roasts and Sherry. Quite Alluring. Light Mouthfeel Overall. Notes of Sherry Continue, Glossing Over Continued Hits of Roasts, Oats and Chocolate. Dry Oat Aftertaste. Really Nice for a Light Bodied Stout

Cask Tap in December 2005. Black in color with a brown head. A nice roasted malt, coffee, and slightly sweet aroma. Smooth with a touch of bitterness that leaves a long lasting roasted malt finish. Rating from notes.

Solid black, with a fine, toasted brown head, showing holes in the side like a little brown sponge. Quite nice looking. Aroma is right on for an oatmeal stout, big espresso notes, nicely roasted, burnt toast, a whiff of anise, a trickle of maple, earthy and rich. I wanna keep on smellin’ it... Fills the mouth from the start, floods all area with dark, delicious flavors, turns a trifle sweet, then dries out with a gritty edge at the exit. Fat malt keeps the tongue grabbing for more. Nicely textured. A sweetness comes in from time to time, that’s the only flaw that nags at me. but it doesn’t last long, and a tidy bitter note comes in to leaven it. Full bodied, rich, bittersweet finish, and good drinkin’...I could spend some time with this one. They ought to make it more often.
