Commercial Description:
Slightly full bodied rich brown ale. Caramel chocolate maltiness in this satisfying dark ale is a year round favorite.

Sample from tap and cask at the brewpub. Pours dark brown with brown head. Aroma is roasted malt. Flavour has the same, with mild sweetness to it and some bitterness in the finish. Decent brown ale, nothing wrong but not special either. Solid brew. Cask adds a bit of citric notes otherwise it doesn’t gain or loose by the cask.

Clear copper body, small beige head. Aroma is caramel and sweet. Taste is light caramel, some earthy bitter, but not much there.

Draft @ Brewpub: Very dark brown, nice head and lacing. Nose of nutty sweet caramel and nutella, chewy sweet raisin and a bit of cocoa and smoke. Licorice and cheddar, nice robust brown ale, I like.

Sample at the brewpub. Dark, nearly opaque brown...light pecan aroma. Taste lightly malty, nutty, bit salty, sweet in the middle, quite dry to finish.

Foggy brown with some head. The "hint of" and "lightly" from the description sound about right. Everything is very average. It has all the hints of great brown ale (malt, nuts, sweetness), but just never pushes those flavors.

Had on tap at the brewpub in downtown St. Paul. Dark brown pour, off white semi-thick head with good lacing. Aroma of cinnamon, other spices. Flavor has some nuttiness, a hint of chocolate and a roasted profile. Mouthfeel is a bit too spritzy for my liking and is slightly thin for the style. Just decent.

On tap at the brewpub. Cloudy dark amber color. Not much aroma. Medium body. Fine fizzy bubbles. Could there be gypsum in this? I always feel a little guilty in rating abrown ale, as I never seem to like them by style, so don’t put much stock in this. Perhaps I should learn how to appreciate this type of ale?
