| An Abbey Tripel brewed by Great Waters Brewing St. Paul, Minnesota USA
| |
beermatrix (1497), Twin Cities, Minnesota, USA Dec 20, 2007 On-tap at the brewpub: Nice golden hue with a slim cap of whitish density. Minimal lace is a few drippy strings and spots.
Aroma is semi tropical of fruits and alcohol. Peachy pineapple mixed with a dullish overall lime spectical. Heat protrudes its way past most other efforts of complexity.
Taste is about the same. Fairly dullish and mild in a candyish tropical fruityness of peach, pineapple, and orangey stuff. Again, as in the aroma, the alcohol bumps around and kinda gets in the way of anything being able to develope in a decent length or strength of a good Ol’ Tripel as far of flavor complexity.
I did favor the body however, quite creamy, mildly sweet in a dullish fashion of candied goodness and even the warmth intrudes other areas, it seems to fit well with the overall body and character of the beer. Its just too bad it couldn’t be masked more somehow in the flavor and smell.
Overall, this was a bit dullish and plain with a bit too much alcohol getting in the way of what just might be a pretty decent Tripel otherwise.
