Tasted the ’First Anniversary’ edition - they also had a ’Second Anniversary’ on tap. Poured a dark reddish, brown color with a small white head. Subtle aromas and tastes. A little musty. Struck me as being past its prime. Kasteelfreak (341), Fallbrook, California, USA

What’s with anniversary ales these days? Is it really that hard to comeup with something better? scraff (1946), Baltimore, Maryland, USA

Nose is spicy, chocolately, hint of smoke. Flavor brings out notes of sweet toffee and nutty caramel while still being backed by the piney hops. Good balance. Medium bodied, oily, very soft carbonation, smooth dry finish. Worth a try if in the SD area. hopscotch (5493), Vero Beach, Florida, USA

Sparkling clear, mahogany ale with a small, creamy, beige head. Excellent lacing. The aroma is of chocolate and light hickory smoke. Well-balanced flavor, well-hopped, moderately bitter with notes of chocolate and caramel. Medium-bodied with an oily mouthfeel and soft carbonation. Short, watery finish. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 27, 2004 (Draft: Liars’ Club in San Diego, CA) Certainly Green Flash’s boldest, baddest, most assertive beer to date; Pumped up strong ale, like an Arrogant Bastard, but less arrogant; Sweet, malty, fairly bitter, and the higher alcohol content is fairly obvious, but not at all unpleasant; Somewhat sticky mouthfeel with a bit of acidity toward the finish; Not much aroma; A very pretty dark red/light brown in color; Tan head has solid retention and coats the glass with a glorious blanket of lacing; Would be a nice beer to drink during the "chilly" winter evenings here in San Diego Tycho (13), USA
