Commercial Description:
Our American-style Barleywine undergoes a three hour boil to intesify the caramel malts and the enormous Pacific Northwest hop charge. The result is a rich, estery brew with toffee notes and citrus hop flavors layered throughout. Enjoy this brew fresh today or lay it down for aging to see how the flavors of each vintage evolve.

08 bottle. Pours a dark brown with a thick off white head. Huge citrus grapefruit spicy hop and caramel malt aroma. Big malt body with lots of spicy citrus hops in the taste. Lots of caramel and hops. A good young barley wine, looking forward to an aged bottle.

Pour was copper/brown lots of lacing and a big thick white head. Aroma is hops, flowers, and lots of citrus. Taste is a lot like a grapefruit rind, very hoppy and bitter, lots of grapefruit citrus. It got a little better the more I drank but overall I’m not that fond of this one.

Sampled at the Impromptu Butter’s 6th cellar clearance. Clear brownish pour with tan head and red highlights. Slightly medicinal, hoppy, earthy, floral. Nice and syrupy and sticky. Not as good as other Green Flash brew’s i’ve had, but not aweful.

Thanks to Butters for letting me choose this for my 300th. Pours a lacing, creamy beige head with a copper-amber body. Smells like with some hops. Tastes like burnt sugar and hops. I was expecting a lot more. Need to try it again sometime and re-rate it.

dark honey and melted suager aromas .. . toffee and chocolate with dark fruit flavors .. . big head with amicable lacing .. . i have some aging, fresh was a treat, good assertive hop presence, after afew months, pretty dramatic change in such a short time... notes of wood and slight brandy notes.. i’ll give it another 6 months and revisit..

2008 Bottle. Pours a dirty dark copper color with a 4+ finger foamy butterscotch head that has good retention after it fades to 1 finger, a minute or so later. Aroma is caramel, toffee, apple, candied nuts, overripe pitted fruit, earthy and planty hop notes. Flavor is oddly earthy up front with some toffee and caramel soon after, some rum, dates, pine and planty hops. Finish is slightly bitter hops, grapefruit and pine, overdone caramel and some unpleasant medicinal notes. Overall not a very impressive barleywine, lacks complexity and has a few off flavors.

Vintage 2008 sometime from that summer. Hazy brown pour with thick fluffy tan head and drippy lace. Nice retention. Caramel, fruit and alcohol. Very similar flavor profile with some citrus thrown in for good measure.

Crushed with Jakebra and my man Cornelius. Interesting barley wine. Nothing amazing here. But it’s still pretty damn good. Lots of hops, good balance. A sipper but very pleasant. Definitely aight.
