Pours out a nice amber color with nearly no head. aroma was hoppy with notes of sweetness. flavor just seemed to lack. it seemed to disappear to quickly. I was left wanting more from this brew. skoisirius (584), Seattle, Washington, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 21, 2008 2 year aged bottle. Holding up quite well what I can imagine was the original beer, this slightly buttery on the tongue and well balanced brew is goodness. The hops have mellow to give way to a light apple fruit flavor, with the caramel remaining within the malt flavors. Highly recommend letting this one sit for a while! jcweaver (65), VA Beach, Virginia, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 14, 2008 This was like a mix between a barleywine and an IPA. A nice balance between the caramel malts and hops. Poured a nice amber color with a a small head. A very smooth aftertaste. hoptimus (50), Grand Island, New York, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 5/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | May 14, 2008 Updated: May 15, 2008Bomber. Served in a snifter. Pretty- looking beer that is a hazy, dark mahogany with a light caramel colored head. The floral-citrus aroma was a bit weak for the style and somewhat artificial. The flavor was a bit lacking in the front for a barleywine but had a huge hop character. Finishes dry. Very close to a IIPA. It was okay. thornecb (1810), Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 14, 2008 Pours bright amber into a snifter. Off-white carbonated head quickly dissipates leaving spot lacing. Pine and resin aromas. Crisp yet full with well-balanced citrus. Blurs the line between barleywine and DIPA. emacgee (1892), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 4/5 | 3/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | May 12, 2008 Man, this is easily the hardest beer I’ve ever had to rate. Starts out looking ok. Has a very interesting deep red pour with a one finger creamy tan head. Then I smell it and everything goes to pieces. I cannot even describe the flavor or aroma that I detected. It was completely dominant in every aspect and only allowed some sweetness to come through. Easily one of the most undrinkable beers I’ve had. The flavor/aroma was completely indescribable, phenolic maybe. I shared it with two other people and neither of them found it as distasteful as I did. Maybe it was a bad bottle and maybe it is a personal thing. aubreya (676), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | May 11, 2008 The color was dark amber. The head was creamy, off-white, and fizzy. The aroma was citris, hops, and sweet grass. The flavor was hoppy, fishy, and salty. The palate was lively. The finish was bitter/hoppy. illidurit (896), Santa Cruz, California, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 11, 2008 Bomber poured into a snifter. Dark reddish brown color with a beige head of about 2 fingers. Nice lacing and retention. Aromas of boozy caramel and sharp hops. Flavor is much the same. Lots of grapefruit and caramel with an astringent finish. Mouthfeel is dry due to the high alcohol. Pretty typical west coast overhopped barleywine, but pretty tasty nonetheless. Virtually no different from a double IPA.
