Mar 2, 2008 Pours a dark amber color with a off white head. Big floral citrus aromas with aromas of caramel malts. Taste is of sweet malts and maybe a hint of toffee foloowed by a nice big hop blast. Not bad at all! Thanks Ubamartian!

Feb 28, 2008 sampled at kelly’s hell with the lid off 2008. pours a clear red amber. scent of big citrus hops, with notes of grapefruit, orange, and pineapple, a solid note of caramel malts, and some slight alcohol. taste of burnt brown sugar, bubblegum floral and citrus hops, and even a bit of piney and earthy hops. good stuff. probably my third favorite of the festival.

Feb 28, 2008 Deep mahogany color with tight head. Aroma is malty sweetness and definitely higher alcohols - earthy, leathery notes as well - piney/ citrusy hop tones behind. Flavor is initially dominated by sugars (demerara, light brown) almost cloying. Malt does come through with a healthy dose of bittering hops on the finish.

Feb 28, 2008 Bottle. High good-looking creamy light brown and lasting creamy head. Clear dark red brown body. Mild and yet hoppy aroma. and strangely enough the otherwise strong IPA lookalike is having a bit of cocoa. Flavor is pretty hoppy and unfortunately with a good deal of alcohol taste. The bitterness cannot hide it, sorry mates. Low carbonation and a long bitter aftertaste. My version was drunken at about 10 degrees celsius. I would not want it warmer. Sorry, noit a favorite.

Feb 25, 2008 22 oz bottle - pours a a crystal clear deep copper/red with a very thin off white ring of foam, skimming the top of the barley wine in clusters, islands of larger bubbles. Aroma is Malt. Hops. Booze...in that order, nothing subtle or delicate here. Sweet malt, clean with a dose of caramel malt.grapefruit/zesty citrus with some pine resin. Definite alcohol presence in the aroma. Up front it’s all toffee and caramel backed by nice clean sweet malty flavor with some fruity esters then the bitterness and hop flavors; big citrus and pine hops that pave the way for the dry and fairly hot finish as the alcohol comes in. Minimal carbonation with a moderately heavy mouthfeel.

Feb 24, 2008 HUGE barleywine here. Bold aromas of malt and pacific hops. Full bodied and quite sweet, but the bitterness cuts it perfectly. Very well done barleywine.

Feb 22, 2008 This is a very good barleywine. Good balance of hops and malts in a San Diego traditional way. And that’s not a bad thing. All hops aside, there’s no doubting this is a barleywine that’ll kick you in the teeth and show you the door.
